finishing touches on a formal downtown

The federal government has chopped
nearly $3 million off an urban renewal
grant earmarked for downtown Oklaho-
ma City, but city officials said today they
aren't complaining.
The revised "settlement grant" is $5 S
million, down from the $8.8 million origi-
nally promised to the city.
The money is to be used to wrap up the
city's unfinished downtown urban renew-

Federal grant cut S3 million
developers
The "disposition proceeds" in question
are expected to be $4 million or more,
compared to $3 million the city has
agreed to sacrifice.
City hall officials had hoped to keep
the full grant amount as well as the land
sale proceeds The U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development had in-
sisted all proceeds should be returned to
federal coffers.
