The 71,000 seats were sold out
long ago, and a reporter who was
searching for some cheap student
season tickets Thursday night dis-
covered to his dismay that prices
were high — so high that one caller
was asking $275 for a pair.
The regular price for a student
season ticket is $17.

"This is the 75th anniversary of
the University of Oklahoma band. It
started back in 1904 with 16 mem-
bers," Dr. Thrailkill said. "So at
halftime, we’re going to form a big
birthday cake with a "Happy 75.”
"We’re really excited about this
year. I personally feel this is going
to be the best band that’s been here
in my tenure, and I’ve been here
nine years. We had 375 students try
out for the band, and we had to cut
to 270." r

Slump in auto sales
at ena, experts say
DETROIT (AP) — The auto sales
slump is over, say analysts and ex-
ecutives who have examined the lat-
est automobile sales figures.
> Sales of the five domestic manu-
facturers, fueled by Chrysler Corp.’s
$400-a-car rebates, soared 15 per-
cent in early September over the
same period of 1978, company re-
ports show.

This year’s band will be sporting
all-new percussion equipment and
new flag girl uniforms. The Pride
will perform at ail OU home games
and travel to the OSU game at Still-
water, the Texas game at Dallas
and the Rice game at Houston.
Saturday's game will mark the de-
but of a new twirler at OU, Aly Za-
loudek, 18, a freshman from Krem-
lin near Enid. She will replace Pam
Martin, who graduated.
Miss Zaloudek, who bested 80
other girls for the job. has won sev-
eral national twirling honors. But it
will also be the first time she has
ever performed with a band.
”We never had a big enough band
at our school for a twirler," she ex-
plained. Kremlin's population is
about 200. “I think it's great. It was
always my dream to be the twirler
for OU's band."
