Slowdowns blasted
WASHINGTON (AP)
— Having concluded
that the public is “fed
up" with slowdowns by
air traffic controllers,
the government says it
is adopting a get-tough
policy for future slow-
downs.
Langhorne M. Bond,
head of the Federal
Aviation Administra-
tion, said "we will be
less reluctant in the
future" to take action
against air traffic con-
trollers engaged in
slowdowns such as
those that caused flight
delays May 25-26 and
June 6-7.
Under a plan sent to
the FAA by the Justice
Department, the attor-
ney general could con-
sider criminal action
against controllers. But
prior to such a step, the
Justice Department
and FAA will consider
injunctions, fines and
administrative actions
against individual con-
trollers and their
union.
Bond said the FAA
