CHAIR OF RESEARCH PROFESSOR
- T am happy to announce that the Board of' Regents has
given unanimous approval to the following statute:
With the approval of the President and on the recommen-
dation of the Graduate Council unanimously made on No-
vember 1 1 1943 and concurred in by the Dear of the Gradu-
ate College the Board of Regents herewith establishes the
Chair of Research Professor in the Graduate College in the
University of Oklahoma
The Chair of Research Professor shall carry with it a
stipend of not less than $500000 a year for a ten months’
period and shall include in addition suitable research aid as n :
approved by the President of the University ou recommen- - v
datum of the Dean of the Graduate College The Research
Professor shall be primarily- responsible to the Dean of the
Graduate College and the Graduate Council although he may
hold membership in-an undergraduate department or an un-
dergraduate division His salary shall be paid by the Gradu- -ate
College He shall be relieved completely if it is deemed
wise of all undergraduate instruction Each Research Fro-
fessor- shall be provided with adequate office research and
library facilities The tenure of a Research Professor shall
be until he reaches the statutory retirement age established
by the Board of Regents The Chair of Research Professor in
any field shall be filled as follows:
' The Dean of the Graduate College shall nominate such
members of the faculty or from faculties of other colleges or -
- Universities who fulfill the canon for the Chair Such nomina-
: tions shall lie before the Graduate Council for thirty days -
whereupon they shall be discussed by the Graduate Council
-' and on' unanimous vote by the Council the Dean of the
Graduate College shall transmit to the President for his ap-
' proval and the subsequent approval of the Board of Regents
the name or names of-the Research Professor or Professors
- -designated -The- Research Professor shall be formally in-
stalled at the next Matriculation Convocation of the Univer-
" sity by the President and the Dean of the Graduate College
f The canon for the -selection of a Research Professor shall
- be this: distinguished contribution to knowledge the nomi-
nee -for a Research Professorship must have demonstrated
over a period of years to the learned world his vigorous lead-
- ership in his field

LEAVES OF ABSENCE NOT MILITARY SERVICE
: The Board of Regents at its- meeting on November 12
1943 adopted the following policy with reference to leaves
- of absence not military service:
Leaves of absence may be granted for a period hot exceed-
ing one year to members of the faculty and other employees
for government service or other employment if their ser-
vices are not immediately essential to the University with
the understanding that such members of the faculty or em-
ployees may be recalled during the year if their services are
required upon sixty (60) days’ notice by the'President of the
University of Oklahoma
Extensions of leaves of absence beyond one ( 1 ) year may
be granted under the above conditions
All members of the faculty or employees now on lcavqof
absence not military service shall be notified that their leaves
expire on September 1 1944 and that extensions if approved
by the Board of Regents in advance on the recommendation
of the President of the University are subject to the above
conditions

with selective service on the question of deferment are to lx
