Senator’s a Whatsit
OKLAHOMA’S U S SENATOR Josh Lee is the state’s lead-
0 ing political whatsit just whal U- stands for and when he
will stand up for it is always difficult to know The only thing
his constituents can be sure of is that he always will be on the ad-
ministration's bandwagon
When a senator is representing a pro-Roosevelt state such as
Oklahoma he is expected to follow to a certain extent the admin-
istralion's policies But congressmen— including Lee-are ex-
pected by their constituents to do a little thinking on their own
occasionally
Our good Senator Lee will be in the race tor re-election this
vear And if he expects to return to Washington in an official
capacity he will have to show the voters that he has what :t takes
to represent them at the capital
Golden voices are fine but they are of little value unless
there is something behind them — ALLEN ROUSH
Soni? Are 'Vorking Too 1 '
YtTTH ALL OUR TALK of whispering campaigns our bad al-
M titude toward the war effort and a general condemnation
of any' new movement little credit has been given to those who
have given tirelessly of their time and effort to teach others how
to conduct themselves during air raids how to administer first
aid to the injured and endless other jobs necessary during any
emergency
Everyone is so busy condemning this group or that group or
the American public in general that they have lost sight of the fact
that a great number of persons throughout the counry are doing
more than their share of work Countless numbers of persons are -
acting as instructors of first aid food raising fire fighting air raid
warden 'service and hundreds of other services " Surely these
persons deserve some praise for their work They receive no pay
for their work and yet get little credit for what they do
A great deal of crydit also should be given to those thousands
of persons who are taking part in the civilian defense — who may
not believe the work is necessary in many parts of the country but
who do their part without grumbling about the inconvenience and
the time taken for such work
No less to be remembered should be those men who are on
the front and who are making the supreme sacrifice for their coun-
try It is perhaps a good thing that they cannot see what is going
on at home for they might lose faith in what we are fighting for
If everyone would just slop a minute each day to remember
those who are sincere in their desire to free the country from the
yoke of war which binds us all the grumbling would cease: and
the idle rumors which envelop the country would disappear

Students in the Fields
IIliARIMi OX EVERY side of programs for speeding up the
iicadi'inic process the average student must be somewhat
surprised to lest1 n of jilans to lengthen summer vacations in sonic
schools to provide additional workers for farmers who will fare a

Yet in the opinion of a good many experts on both agricul-
