A 31-year-old Norman woman was
arrested early today after leading
Oklahoma City, Norman, Moore and
Purcell police on a chase on 1-35.
Police said Gloria Sue Hart, of 828
N Berry, was arrested at Ruby's
Truck Stop in Purcell where she fi-
nally halted her car about 4 a.m.
Oklahoma City police Sgt. Mike
Burkhart said the chase started
about 3:30 a.m. at SE 29 and 1-35
where he noticed Mrs. Hart's 1974
Buick disregard a red light. Burk-
hart said when he tried to stop the
woman, she drove onto 1-35 and sped
away south.
Burkhart said he reached speeds
of 100 m.p.h. as the Buick gained
ground on him.
Burkhart said that as the chase
proceeded through far south Oklaho-

ance from Moore. Two police cars

to apprehend Mrs. Hart, police re-

Purcell police, notified of the ap-
proaching chase, used three of their
police cars to set up a roadblock just
north of that city, Burkhart report-
ed.
The sergeant said Mrs. Hart sped
through the roadblock, drove across
the center median and sped back
north toward Norman where a sec-
ond roadblock had been set up.
Mrs. Hart allegedly crossed the
median after going through the Nor-
man roadblock, then headed back
south on 1-35, Burkhart reported.
Mrs. Hart left the interstate at the
Lexington-Purcell exit and drove
south on Purcell's Green Ave. Burk-

What action do you take?
A.—Bid two no trump. With a tim-
id partner, we would even suggest a
leap to three no trump. Partner
must be better than minimum to
freely rebid over the Interference.
You have 10 points and a good five-
card suit, so you should make some
effort to get to game. Don’t rebid
your heart suit—that would show a
weaker, more distributional hand,
with a distaste for no trump.

What do you bid now?
A.—The bidding has developed
awkwardly. You really have quite a
good hand, but there is no conven-
ient way to describe it. You are bal-
anced and would like to bid no
trump, but you have no stopper in
the enemy suit; a rebid of three
clubs misdescribes the shape of your
hand. The least of evils seems to be
to raise partner's hearts. Admitted-
ly, we are reluctant to raise with
only a doubleton honor, but the fact
that partner entered the auction
freely at the two-level suggests that
he has either a good suit or enough
strength to direct the hand to an al-
ternative contract.

What action do you take?
A.—Pass. The fact that partner re-
opened the bidding with a double in
the face of a strong no trump sug-
gests that he must have very close
to an opening bid. You have a hand
with useful defensive values and a
natural opening lead. Since declarer

A.—Two spades. While you have a
fair hand, it is not quite good enough
to jump. A leap to three spades
would show the ability to take about
seven tricks in your own hand, and
you are a mite short of that. Since
partner is likely to bid again, you
can make some loud noise later to
show your values, depending on his
rebid.

What do you bid now?
A.—Five hearts. Partner has coop-
erated in your slam effort by cue-
bidding the ace of spades. Your only
concern now is the diamond suit
where you have two potential fast
losers. By leaping to five hearts, you
tell partner you are worried about
diamonds—if he has second-round
control, he will go on to slam.

Partner open* the bidding
with two no trump. What do
you respond?
A.—In terms of high cards, you
have the values for a slam try. Part-
ner has at least 22 points and you
have 10. However, your hand is
slightly unbalanced, so a suit con-
tract might play better than no
trump. You should start the investi-
gation by responding three spades.
If partner simply rebids three no
trump, continue describing your
hand by showing your second suit.

What do you bid now?
A.—Two no trump. You have a
balanced hand of 20 points, and that
is exactly what this rebid shows. We
are not in the habit of suppressing a
biddable major suit, but there is no
convenient way to introduce your
spades now. If you rebid one spade,
you run the risk that partner might
pass. And if you jump to two spades,
you will have a job convincing part-
ner later that you have a balanced
hand—he will expect some distribu-
tional values.

A.—We vote for a simple overcall
of two diamonds, although we won't
severely criticize an immediate cue-
bld of two hearts. Under no circum-
stances should you make a takeout
double. There is a high probability
that partner has length in spades, in
which case he may doggedly rebid
his suit until it Is too late. The cue-
