Former Gov. David
Hall, facing three years
in prison, takes his
case to the 10th U.S.
Circuit Court of Ap-
peals In Denver Mon-
day for oral arguments
on whether the high
court should overturn
his conviction on extor-
tion and bribery
charges.
Arguments before a
three-judge panel are
set for 11:30 a.m. Okla-
homa City time, with
attorneys for Hall and
Dallas financier W. W.
"Doc" Taylor given a
total of 30 minutes to
present arguments sup-
I porting the legal briefs
■ they Died in early De-
s cember.
Government attor-
neys will be alloted 30
minutes to respond.
Hall and Taylor were
convicted by a federal
jury on March 14 of
last year after a trial
that lasted three
weeks. Hall was con-
victed of extorting
money from Taylor and
of three counts relating
to an attempt to bribe
Secretary of State John
Rogers to use his influ-
ence as chairman of
r the board administer-
ing the state retirement
f fund to swing a *10 mil-
; lion Investment to a
1 firm owned by Taylor,
j Hall was sentenced to
; three year terms on
each count, with the
* terms to run concur-
rently.
Taylor was convicted
of conspiring with Hall
to bribe Rogers and on
two substantive counts.
He was sentenced to 18
months sentences on
each count with the
sentences to run con-
currently,
Hall and Taylor have
remained free on bond
pending a ruling from
the appeals court on
their appeals. That rul-
' ing is expected within
three months.
Hall has said he
would take his appeal
all the way to the U.S.
< Supreme Court, if nec-
essary.
Hall's appeal alleged
15 s o - C a 11 e d errors
w h 1 c h his attorneys
i claimed were commit-
ted during the trial.
The two major proposi-
tions claimed by the
defense are that U.S.
Dist. Judge Fred
1 Daugherty's insistence
that an ill juror return
to deliberations
I "coerced" the jurors to
| reach a hasty verdict,
and that the judge
erred in altering the in-
dictment returned by a
grand jury on Jan. 16,
1975.
Government a 110 r-
neys have argued that
the juror, Dell Meyer,
was not coerced into
resuming deliberations
and that the words
■ omitted by Judge
Daugherty in his In-
» structlons to the jury
were not essential to
| the indictment.

the designation.
Berry, 63. offered a
bill Thursday to name
an official state fossil,
an official rock and an
official gem.
Since the bill was of-
fered late in the legisla-
tive session, often a
time for lighter mo-
ments, the bill was
amended by voice vote
to make Berry, a Knox-
ville Republican, the
state's official fossil.
Berry withdrew the
bill.__________________________
