Educators Will Honor President Bizzcll’s
Ten Years of Service to University
Honoring the first ten years of President
Bizzell’s administration as head of the uni-
versity leading educators of the southwest
will gather here in November to pay tribute
to the man who has guided the miraculous
growth of tne university
Since Bizzell assumed his duties here in
1925 the university has gained recognition
as one of the leading educational institutions
of the nation'
The graduate school has been enlarged
and has attained a standing equal tc any
school in this section of the country
' Improved standards have been adopted
in all departments of instruction and in
research
Thru the efforts of Bizzell funds for the
beautiful $500000 university library were
obtained and the University Press founded
As the university president concludes his
tenlh year of service here an extensive
building program for the school is await-
ing the approval of officials in Washington
Plans and specifications for a business
administration building and science hail al-
ready have been submitted to public works
directors
A new armory may he built for the uni-
versity if funds are made available by the
government Improvement projects for the
Union are among others ‘planned
Bizzell also is seeking a university spon-
sored S2 000 000 research project by which
employment is scheduled to bo given more
than 2 000 white collar workers
From present indications the president's
' future tenure of office here promises to be
one of greater expansion than the past

To Park-O-Meter or Not Probably Will
1 Be Question for Courts '
Municipalities thruout the nation are
viewing with interest Oklahoma City's ex-
periment with the park-o-metcr
Tho new plan is designed to make mo-
torists pay- their share of the regulatory
costs of traffic supervision on busy streets
If the experiment is ruled out by state
courts it is doubtful whether tjwus of
the park-o-meter will spread to other Yifcrs
If not the devices probably will be estab-
lished in a large number of cities itjj
It is considered likely by some however
that the courts will declare the use of the
lnrko-mcter illegal In that the city rents
ft part of a street foe u given period of time
to one motorist

Telling young writers not to be discour-
aged “because' Robert Frost’s masterpieces
were rejected for 20 years" does not seem
to be such a good idea to us
A lot of writers would rather dig ditches
than go hungry 20 years while waiting for
recognition

that Edgar got no prison sentence at all —

Edgar's past is an open poem no doubt

OKLAHOMA CITY— (JV-A new
atmosphere has been injected ir
to the next governor’s race— ir
1938 — by efforts of some of
the state's leading politicians tc
get W S Key state works progress
director and warden of the state
penitentiary into the running
It is likely that the administra-
tion would back Key for the place
if it sponsors anyone's race and if
the former army officer becomes
a candidate
Key’s name is mentioned more
and more at the stateliouse as one
of the strongest political candi-
dates that could be put into the
field
Key Was Warden
Key who was warden of the
penitentiary during the M E Trapp
administration accepted a similar
post under Marland only after
much urging and it is questionable
whether he would want to enter
politics definitely and take some
time from his oil business
The warden and WPA adminis-
trator is recognized as an efficient
business man who makes friend:
easily and holds them It is reli-
ably reported that he was selected
for the works post because the
governor 'and his advisors believe
that Key would be acceptable tc
all of the state’s congressiona'
delegation in Washington
:
Kenny Acting Warden
During Key’s absence from the
penitentiary “Wash” Kenny for-
mer A and U coliege coach has
filled the place as acting warden
Key detained his home at the
prison however and ’ likely wil’
move back when his job is ended
Such men as Col Charles A
Daley of' the state crime bureau
are known to be friendly to Key
and anxious to support him if hr
decides to make the race for gov-
ernor No Announcement Made
While Key has not announced
whether he will try for the jot
of the state's first citizen his close
friends declare that he will not
in any way attempt to use his new
post to further himself politically
He has tackled the WPA organ-
ization program in Oklahoma as an
army officer would another battle
and has determined to use strictly
business principles in carrying out
his plans
