CLOSE CONTEST TO
ALPHA TAU OMEGAS
Winners Overcome Kappa Alpha Five
Run Lead Held at End of Third
Inning
Tlie Alpha Tau Omega nine took the
hottest contest of the interfraternity
baselall season Friday when they de-
feated the Kappa Alpha team by a score
of 8 to 7 after the Kappa Alpha team
held a five-run lead at the end of the
third inning
i The game went two extra innings af-
ter the A T O team tied the score in
the last half of the seventh The score
was tied 6 and 6 in the sixth and each
team made one in the seventh
Hunter worked the mound for the
Kappa Alpha team in a form far above
the average interfraternity league pitch-
er but the support given him by his
team was disheartening He only al-
lowed seven hits in nine innings and part
of those were scratched due to slow
fielding He gave four free passes
getting fifteen strike outs in nine in-
nings Laird started for the Alpha Tau
Omega team but was relieved by Grif-
fith during the third inning when he
weakened Laird had allowed four hits
and gave two free passes when he was
jerked Griffith yielded eight hits in
six and two thirds innings getting six
strike outs He kept a cool head and
his team worked like clock work behind
him The only Alpha Tau Omega error
was credited on a hard chance that
might have been called a hit
The hitting honor went to Griffith
who slashed out two singles and two
that netted two bags out of five times
at the plate

second on a ground ball to pitcher and
third on another to the same place and
scored when Hayman singled
They repeated again in the fourth by
a walk to Sadlo who advanced to sec-
ond on a ground ball to pitcher and
scored when Warrant singled
Nicholson singled in the fifth and
stoic second base took third on Con-
nor’s single and scored on an error at
third base The run of the sixth in-
ning was due to a single by Toler who
took second on an error and scored on
Nicholson’s single
Durkee Works Well
Durkce twirled for the Sooners dur-
ing the entire game yielding nine hits
giving two free passes getting four
strikeouts He held them in control and
never allowed the hits to be hunched
in any one inning
Lowe worked on the mound for the
visitors and was forced to yield thir-
teen hits in eight frames The support
behind him was poor and he seemed dis-
couraged after a few innings

for 1923 comes the interesting revela-
