and Pvt Donald O. Norwood, son of
Mrs. Blance McConigle, Picher, are on

XNOUNVOOD, Calif., April 23—
UP>—A terrific explosion rocked this
suburban Loa Angelas city sarly Fri-
day when a boiler flew up at the
Basin Oil Co.’a storage tank farm.
There were no known casualties
A aeries <rf smaller blasts followed,
believed to bo power tranaformers. The
blasts fired a gas main, shooting huge
flames skyward. But firemen cut off
the raw gas line Inta the plant to halt
the blase. None of the farm’s oil
tanks caught fire. „ .
The force of the Hast hurtled the
huge Industrial-type boiler off the
five-acre plant to a nearby street, an
estimated 100 yards.
The blast also knocked down power
lines in the area, sheared off the top
of a parked automobile and tumbled
nearby fences.
Joe Roark, who lives nearby, said
the blast "shook us all out of our
beds.”
The same plant was the scene of a
disastrous blase in September, 1040.
Two women and a child were killed
when 18 crude oil storage tanks ex-
ploded. sending flashes of flaming oil
into a nearby trailer camp.
