Description

Photograph used for a story in the Daily Oklahoman newspaper. Caption: "Oklahoma City's road program will remain virtually at a standstill until the city pays the state highway department $68, 218.46. That amount is due now. Another $776,719.05 bill also will be forthcoming from the highway department in the near future. The costs accured after agreed to loan Oklahoma City funds for use in the acquisition of right of way for its interstate highways. On urban roads, the city is required to pay the total right of way cost. Construction costs are divided 50-50 between the state and federal government.........However, the commission agreed to proceed with the acquistion of right of way on the central (crosstown) expressway "inasmuch as land value in the immediate area is rapidly increasing and a delay in the acquisition would result in higher cost of right of way" (Map shows Oklahoma City's expressways - present and planned. Legend gives status of each road. Urban projects are designated by U followed by number which corresponds to project numbers listed in this article.)"
