Seiuitor John Golobie has always served Okla-
homa ever since he made the historic '‘run" at the
opening, April 22. 1889, as a newspaper correspondent,
and it would U' the crowning sen ice of his life to rep-
rvsent this great state in the United States Congress.
He was the first territorial librarian as far hack
as 1893. It was he who had the mistletox' chosen as
the' state emblem, as well as the motto uixm its seal.
Idilx'r Omnia Vineit." It was by his continual news-
paper exploitation that the state was nicknamed the
"S'X'ner State."
As editor for many years of the Railing news-
paper of the territory he encouraged and helped de-
xelop several writers, poets, musicians, painters,
singers and actresses that afterwards became noted in
the Eastern art world.
On the material side, of the state’s development,
he took a carload of territorial agrkAiltural fair pre-
mium farm products as early as 1897. as exhibits to
the Eastern cities.
In 1898. he gathered fix'm that year’s crop an
agricultural exhibit for the Omaha World Exposition,
which secured five gold ami six silver medals, one gold
nitxial being for the greatest variety of farm products
of any state tn the union.
He is the father of the sale of Oklahoma’s
ands and their conversion into homes for the
of the soil.
His whole enei^y has been expended all
thirty-five years in Oklahoma, by pen and speech, that
the farmers and laborers should get their just propor-
tion of the great prosperity of this countn*.
In his eight years in the State Senate, since 1917.
hx' has alwaxs \ot*xi for measures that would do jus-
tice to these two interests. <\]ual tv' other industries.
During the world war he went broke in subscrib-
ing tv' all funds ami serving every movement to give
prx>i\r protection tv' the soldiers at the front, and
after the war. as a state legislator, voted for the txmus
and ewry compensation and hospital relief.
