Egyptian President Gamal
Abdel Nasser eulogized his
former Vice President Abdel
Hakim Amer as “more than a
brother to me,” the Cairo
newspaper A1 Ahram said
today. Amer, under suspicion of
heading a plot to overthrow
Nasser, committed suicide last
week.
The newspaper reported that
Nasser told an Egyptian cabinet
meeting Sunday night, "None of

he added.
Included in the plumbing
supplies which are available at
Treeman’s store is a full line

rural water districts. The

Heavy Rainfall
Douses Midwest
By United Press International
Patches of heavy rain, fog
and haze blemished the sunny
and warm weather that covered
most of the nation today.
Nearly six inches of rain
drenched Russell, Kan., in a six-
hour period before 1 a.m. this
morning. Hail, one-quarter inch
in diameter, accompanied the
rain.
Aberdeen, S.D., received
more than an inch of rain by
early today while Pickstown,
S.D., reported nearly an inch.
Light rain fell over the
northern Rockies and the Plai s,
the Middle Atlantic Coast and
northern California and Oregon.
Widely scattered thundershow'
ers were developing over the
mountains of the West and the
Plains.
A stagnant high pressure
system over lower Michigan
produced patchy fog and haze
from the Midwest to New
England.
Summer remained unble-
mished today, however, over
most of the Pacific Coast and
from the Mississippi River to
the East Coast. Cooler weather
was predicted for the eastern
portions of the Pacific North-
west and Idaho.
Capital punishment was abo-
lished in Rhode Island in 1852.

Bv FRED I.ANKARD ______..______
Twenty-six wells have been
drilled by this method with
ever-increasing efficiency. In
1963 moves and rig-ups took
about two months compared
with an average of nine days
in 1966, Over the same period,
actual drilling time dropped
from 68 days to 26 days, and
testing and completion opera-
tions were cut from 58 days to
13.
To trim the expenses of air
transportation, work is nearing
completion on a 35-mile access
road from the main camp to
Orito and the first rigs are ex-
pected to be moved by land
sometime this month. Helicopt-
er rig moves will be limited to
new exploratory locations.
Work is also underway on the
$50 million, 18, 14, and 10-inch
pipelines to carry the oil from
the Orito field to Tumaco, a Co-
lombian Pacific port.
In its study of the Orito de-
velopment, the Oil and Gas
Journal noted that the line will
originate at 1,079 feet, climb to
11,500 feet in a brief 48 miles,
drop into and rise out of a 35-
mile mountain saddle, and
sweep down to Tumaco at a
point 12 feet above sea level.
