M PEACE AND TRUTH: Thus ..aith the Lard. Call upon
‘ me. and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and
mighty things which thou knoweth not. . . . Behold I
will bring it heakh and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal
unto them the abundance of peace and truth.—Jerrmiah 33:2, 3, 6.
TWO DISTINCT LOSSES
The theatre and France have lost two eminent leaders. In
the case of :hr former the death of E. H. Sothern leaves a vacancy
that can be no more easily filled than can that of a successor to
Paul Painleve* wisdom and vision, French premier during the world
War. both of whom died early yesterday.
Sothern, Shakeapearian impressario, has played a variety of
rolea in his day and reached hi, zenith aa Romeo in “Romeo and
Juliet. Julia Marlowe, hi, widow, played the Shakeapearian fe-
male role and several years afterward, the pair was married. Soth-
rr.n'*..l®*f in New York wa» in 1925 in “Whatever
Dies. The stage indeed lose, one of its veterans in dramatic
interpretation in his possing.
Painleve is famed, not only for hrs statesmanship, but as n
scientist. He is responsible for the growth of French aviation in-
terest. A doctor of mathematic, and winner of institute prizes for
works on scientific subjects, Painleve was the first French inter-
preter for Albert Einstein, relativity theorist.
Not so long ago it wa, Painleve who urged France to pay ita
war debt to America. He wan minister of war during the world
war crisis and elected premier again in 1925. Entertainment and
politics lose two notables who have stamped themselves indelibly
on history pages in their respective arts the world over.
Germany, too. will have progressed too far for Hitler before he
tnay »Wt up the regime of restrictions he i, attempting to launch
carte blanche. When the world refuses to look on him with re-
aper* and when the people of The Fatherland lose theirs___Hitler's
star wifi have set permanently as has that of ill unreasonable poli-
tical extremieta.
If political aspirants in Creek county would light on the office
they mean to run for—they might at least make peace among
themselves.
Tonight is Hallowe en. It a an occasion tor celebration, but
hot of violation. The breadth between the two ia wide enough
for even extreme fun-iata.

NOTED SURGEON SAYS AMERICANS
HAVE BECOME OVER-FOND EATERS
OKLAHOMA CITY. Oct II. ;LP>--
Amtrlcans hare devetoiied into a na-
tion of people who live to eat. In a
few years they will be a nation of
1 overweights.
1 Such is the opinion of Dr. Morris

American Medical Association Journal,
who was here today for Ule annual
convention of the Oklahoma City
clinical tocieiy.
Dr. Flshbeln asserted that with the
advent of beer and repeal of the 18th

he receives 400 calories, which Is
equivalent to three slices of bread
and butter.'1 the doctor-editor said
"If he drinks a highball he receives
as many calories a, If he ate three
hard boiled eggs. » '1I| V1i|
"P< ople oi Europe drink these
liquors with their meals, put Amer-
icans drink them as accessories to
their meals. It's liable to produce a
bunch of overweights.''
Dr. Flshbeln was scheduled to out-
line the "history and evolution of
quackary in a public addresi tonight
at a banquet of the society's guests
and delegates.
Meantime, in technical sessions, Dr.
Isidore Cohn, professor of surgery at
Tulane university, told the medical
men that a surgeon's work is not
completed until his patient has fully
recovered
Dr. Cohn's lecture followed one by
Dr. Irving' Stein, Chicago, Nortn-
western university associate professor
cf obstetrics and gynecology, who
described a new method of curing
tuberculosis of pelvic organs In wo-
men without operations.
Diagnosis is simplified, and often-
times operations prevented, he said,
by a new injection method which
makes it possible to taxe X-ray photo-
graphs of the organs after Injection
