Board members Grant and Joan

Area FFA and 4-H students are prepar-
ing their prize livestock for the 2007 Creek
County Livestock Show which begins
March 1 and runs through March 6.
The show will consist of contests in ani-
mal divisions such as market goats, market
lambs, market steer, market hogs and
heifers.
Those animals selected to be in the top
percentile of their division will then go on
to participate in the premium sale at the
end of the show.
At the sale, the public is allowed to
make bids of donations towards a specific
animal, and those donations will then go to
the student in charge of the animal to use as
scholarship funds, future programs or the
upkeep of the animal.
The premium sale will be held on
March 6 at 5 p.m.. with a Buyer’s Social
scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. that same
evening.
The Creek County Fairgrounds arc
located on Highway 66 west of Sapulpa.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) —
Oklahoma school superintendents joined
state House Democrats Tuesday in

ing measure they said is needed to fully
fund $3,000 teacher pay raises authorized
by state lawmakers last year.

‘Little red dog’ caught, looking for a home

Grade gave Sapulpa animal control
officers fits during her months of elud-
ing capture.
The mixed breed dog had been
spotted roaming areas of Taft Avenue
between Main and Mission streets for
several months.
Officers finally captured the dog
two weeks ago, and now they are
searching for a good home to send her
to.
"It took us several months to catch
this girl,” said officer Shelly Swafford.
“We were always getting calls
about if we had caught ’that little red
dog,”’ added officer Ellen James.
When the officers finally captured
the dog, they could tell she was a spe-
cial girl.
“We knew she was scared of peo-
ple,” Swafford said.
“We could tell something had hap-
pened to her in the past to make her
that way."
Grade still shakes a little and tends
to cower when anyone reaches to her.
but James said she is warming up nice-
ly to human contact.
“She is so much better than when
she came in," James said.
Swafford said Grade, who officers
estimate is just over a year old, gets
along great with other animals — even
cats — and would benefit from being
in a home where she could receive lots
of attention and affection from her
owner.
“She is extremely lovable and has a
lot of love to give,” Swafford said.
“We want to make sure she gets to a
good home.”
Gracie is just one of many dogs and
cats that are currently up for adoption
at the Sapulpa Animal Shelter located
at the dead end of Fifth Street in
Sapulpa.
For more information on Gracie or
to find other animals currently up for
adoption, contact the shelter at 227-
2722.
