Tulsa Area United Way has
committed more than $700
million to bettering the com-
munity in hundreds of ways.

Tulsa and Wagoner counties.
The Tulsa Area United Way
has announced their roster of
Trailblazers: companies and
organizations that will conduct
early campaigns this summer
in advance of the United
Way’s traditional fall fundrais-
ing campaign.
“As Trailblazers, these
companies and organizations
are truly blazing the trail and
providing an example to others
as we prepare to kick off the
2014 campaign." said Mark
Graham, president and CEO of
the Tulsa Area United Way.
The Trailblazer companies
agree to conduct “model"
campaigns, following certain
best practices prescribed by
the United Way, Graham said.
They also challenge them-
selves to significantly increase
their campaigns over last year.
“We believe it’s important
to move ahead and provide
energy and momentum to the
upcoming campaign,” said

In I924, eleven service
organizations joined together
in one annual charity cam-
paign organized as The Tulsa
Community Fund by area
businessmen.
That first campaign goal of
$238,895 was $9,000 over
goal. Since 1924. $593.5 mil-
lion has been raised through
the donations of area individu-
als and corporations.
Oklahomans have historically
been generous givers to United
Way, Green Country consis-
tently has been in the top 3
percent of United Ways in the
nation.

Adams and Abel were
handcuffed and placed into
custody. Meanwhile officer
Clayton drove over to Walmart
to make contact with the
reporting party.
An employee working in
the asset protection depart-
ment of the store told Clayton
he saw Abel on video from
August 25,2014 pick up a Dell
computer valued at $698 and
leave the store without paying
for the item.
Additionally the security
associate also said that on
August 26, 2014 he watched
Abel and Adams select another
Dell marked at the same price
and leave the store. On that
same day Abel returned to the
store and pilfered a
Powerstroke Power Washer
valued at $297.
The security employee said
the total for all the merchan-
dise stolen was $1,693.
The reporting party pro-
ceeded to tell the officer that
he spotted the couple entering
the store and followed th-m.
He said they picked out a com-
forter set and walked towards
the men’s department. The two
then left the set in the depart-
ment and left the store empty
handed wihin the same vehicle
that was recorded from the
earlier incidents.
Clayton made contact with
the couple still in custody.
They had been read and
informed of their Miranda
rights and agreed to talk.
The two subjects admitted
to taking the merchandise.
Abel told officer Clayton that
he took the items to sell,
because he had a "drug habit
and needed the money.”
Abel was transported to the
Sapulpa Police Department.

According to police records,
the female driver Adams was
given a citation and released
from custody.
Court records reveal multi-
ple guilty pleas by Abel to lar-
ceny and grand larceny in
2008 and 2009 out of Tulsa,
Osage and Oklahoma
Counties. Abel has also pled
guilty for obtaining a con-
trolled prescription drug by
forged or altered script.
As of press time Abel is in
custody in the Creek County
Justice Center with bonds
totalling $15,000.
Correction: to the August 24 edition of the Sapulpa Daily Herald
Correction to the Herald August 24 story concerning the
three suicides this year of Creek County Justice Center inmates.
The Herald incorrectly stated that David Ernst 52, was con-
victed of three counts of manslaughter. In fact Ernst was found
guilty last June of four counts of manslaughter in the first degree,
following the aftermath of a 2013 head on collision on Oklahoma
66 near Kellyville.
Victims killed in the crash were 74-year-old Vernon Bowles,
74-year-old Susie Frazier. 51-year-old Vivian Henry and a 9-
year-old, Alex Henry.
