Neighbor child
needs kindness
By Abigail Van Burcn
|c 19/0 by Chicago Tr.buny H Y Now* Smd . lac |
DEAR ABBY I have an 11 year-old daughter I'll call
Susie Mv problem is what to do about her constant
playmate I'll call Mary Mary lives around the corner and
she and Susie are like Siamese twins
Mary is a nice child, but her mother is a divorced woman
who entertains gentlemen friends every night I You know the
kind91 Apparently she has no shame before her daughter
from what Mary tells Susie I've told Susie the facts of life,
but it's nothing compared to what Mary has told her!
I hate to forbid Susie to play with Mary, but I can’t have
my daughter associating with a rhild who sees her mother
carrying on with men and is probably taught to believe there
is no'hing w rong with it Please tell me what to do
SUSIE'S MOTHER
ItEAK MOTHER: Why punish an innocent rhild I Mary I
for the "sins" of her mother? You could do Mary a
tremendous favor hy making her especially welcome in your
home, where wholesome attitudes and decency prevail Don't
worry. Mary won't "corrupt" vour daughter. In thr mean-
time. the little neighbor girl needs kindness and understand-
ing. not punishment for a situation for which she is blame-
less.
DEAR ABBY Someone said she read in your column
that when a light skinned black and a while person marry it
is not possible for them to produce a coal black baby I can't
believe you said that because everyone knows a baby ran he
a throwback to several generations Please put your answer
in the paper I want PR(X)F' TOLEDO
DEAR TOLEDO: A rhild born of a black-white couple
will not be darker than thr darker parent. If two individuals
marry. BOTH of whom havr some Mack ancestry, it is
possible for their children to be one or two shades darker
than the darker parent, but no "coal black baby” suddenly
pops up. One parent or thr other would have to havr been
"coal black.”
DEAR ABBY: Would you please pass on these tips for
girls who want to know if a man is married or single’’
1 Beware of the man who removes his white shirt and
necks in his underwear because it's "too hot " |His wife
checks his shirts. I
2 The man who always washes his face before he leaves
your apartment
3 The man with the dirty license plate on his car if the
rest of his car is clean (He's experienced in hiding I
4 The man who always leaves before midnight because
he "has to get up early in the morning "
5. The man who visits his "mother” on holidays and
every week-end, and he can't make dates with you very far
in advance (He never knows when ius wife will let him out. i
6 The man who'd rather bring a bottle to your
apartment than take you out because he wants to "relax" in
peace and quiet
Thanks, Abby, for all the advice I’ve received from you
thru the years You probably wonder why I’m still married.
So do I I can't sign my name because I’m still putting on a
happy marriage act for the neighbors
