PROCRESS
TUESDAY-AUG. 5th
L

NOT NOW
WHEN?
■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■MM
There teems to be no disagreement on the matter of o need for
a new courthouse for Creek County. No one has come forth with
the observation that the present building is in good condition
and that it is adequate to meet the needs of Creek county Some
people have tried to tie the courthouse bond issue in with any
and all sorts of other projects, needs, programs, etc. But we can't
escape this one important fact—the Tuesday bond issue is con-
cerned with doing something about our need for a new court-
house NOW.
Tuesday's election is not over o road program, has nothing to do
with a number of other matters that are of dire concern. We have
a county courthouse that has served us 55 long years. The building
presents a degree of fire hazzard as well as being too small for
the increased work load county offices are required to do these
days.
Since no one doubts the need for a courthouse (and who could?)
then surely Tuesday is the time to do something about it. Right
now, we have 40% of the cost of the courthouse already financed
That's the reason for the small cost outlined elsewhere on this
page.
Let's take care of our problems as the opportunity presents itself.
Tuesday we can do something obout our courthouse. Let's vote
YES ond then move on to other matters at hand.
Where Do You Want The Money Spent? On A 55-Year-Old
Courthouse Or On A Brand New Structure?
Tuesdoy you will decide how we are to spend the
$250,000 building fund. We w*ll either apply in on
a new courthouse (providing you vote YES) . . .
or we will spend it to repair the old courthouse
(if you vote NO).
The choice is yours. The money will not be spent
for other purposes, because it was legal accumul-
ated for capital improvements to our courthouse
facilities. This monev d>d NOT come from rural
road money . . . <t came from the 1.5 mills that
wos formerly assigned to the cities of Creek County.
When these cities started voting sales taxes, the
Board of County Commissioners took the 1.5 mills
and started accumulating it for a courthouse im-
provement project. Before spending the money on
repairs to the present courthouse the Commission-
ers felt it would be wise to see if the people wanted
a new courthouse. That's the reason for the Tues-
day election.
NOT ONE
DIME OF
ROAD
MONEY
IS IN THE
BUILDING
FUND
The money the county commis-
sioners saved from the 10-mill
administrative budget did NOT
penalize the road building money
of this county ONE DIME Prc
viously this money had been al-
located to the cities before the
city sales taxes were voted all
over the county. Road money
comes from several sources . .
state, gasoline taxes, etc. . but
NEVER in the history of Creek
County has ONE DIME of ad
valoreum money been used for
county road- Pleose do not be
misled into thinking thot hod
the county commissioners not
saved up this money for the new
courthouse that it would go for
the roads . . . that is NOT True-
WHAT ABOUT PARKING?
Present plans calt for 75 free parking places at the
new courthouse, it will be built on the vacant lot
behind the present structure and the old one then
torn down. Futuis planning can provide easily ano-
ther 75 parking places, perhaps more. Don't worry
about free parking around the new courthouse—
there will be pienty for visitors, jurors, etc. to the
courthouse.
Where Will It Be Located?
The site for the courthouse is to be on the lot be-
hind the present courthouse. The county already
owns the land.
The Cost Is Small
The average cost of the bond issue is only 1.56 mills.
The reason the cost is smallis that the county commissioners ore
putting $250,000 from a building fund into the project to start
with and they hove signed a contract with the state ond federal
government for rent on a welfare office that will pay back ot
least $250,000 during the first twelve years of the issue. All these
rentals will go to retire the bonds. Thus, 40% of the cost of the
courthouse in already financed.

The Records On Every Piece Of
Property In Creek County Are
Housed In A Building That Is
Not Fireproof!
The Creek County Courthouse is 55 years old
And it shows it The building is the same today as it
was when the doors were opened in 1914 Our county
offices are cramped and we have almost been forced
out of the building by our records, files, etc.
Drive around the Creek County Courthouse
and take a look at the building. See for yourself what
55-YEARS have done to this once fine structure
