THE INDIAN ADVOCATE
At 10 A. M. the happy youths marched in procession from
the Pastor's residence into the Church holding their rosary
prayer book and candle in their hands and kneeling before
the altar they sang the hymn "Comi Holy Ghost."
The Rev. Fr. Gratian officiated at Mass whilst Rev Fr.
Leo assisted by a number of hardy Basques executed the
singing at the organ. The altar was artistically decorated
by home talent and with beautiful flowers from Bakersfield.
Rev. Fr. Leo preached the sermon commenting on the
words of promise of the Holy Eucharist contained in the
sixth chapter of St. John. A very impressive part of the
ceremony was when the children stood made profession of
faith in public and in a firm and intelligible voice renewed
their baptismal promises. A number of parents accompani-
ed their children to the holy Table whilst many non-Catholics
witnessed the sacred ceremony most respectfully.
At 3 P. M. Vespers were sung in enthusiastic strain it was
regular congregation singing and Rev. Fr. Gratian deliver-
ed an eloquent instruction on the devotion ot the Blessed
Virgin Mary and enrolled the First Communicants in the
Scapular. Then they rendered the beautiful hymn "Daily
Daily Sing to Mary."
These children should always remember that day as the
happiest in their lives that they may live to be always good
and faithful in 'the service of their God is the prayer of
A Witness.
