Wanctte bids fair to equal if not surpass other Sistertowns by the
whole-hearted manner in which the good people second their active Pas-
tor's endeavors to make their church truly worth of Divine worship. We
heartily congratulate Rev. Fr. Fisher O.S.H.on the results already accom-
plished. South Mc-Alester came in for the lion r share of the community mem-
bers of Sacred Heart Abbey Perhaps some of the favored flock came in
close contact with Blarney Castle and its relic in bgone days.
Solemn High Midnight Mass was Pontifically celebrated by the Rt.
Rev. M Bernard Murphy O S. B Abbot of Sacred Heart Abbey. Asst.
Priest Rev. D. Germanns Guillaume O. S. H. Pastor of the Parish. Dea-
cons of Honor The Very Rev. Norbert Hne O. S B. Prior of Sacred
Heart Abbey and. Rev. I). Vjncent Montalibet O. S. B. Deacon of the
Mass Rev. D. Raphael Defives O. S. B. Sub-deacon D. Charles O. S. B
Bro. Jerome O S B. Master of Ceremonies.The ladies of the Altar society
deserve unstinted praise for the taste displayed in the decoration of the
High Altar the sanctuary and especially the Abbot's throne. Rarely could
be seen such profusion and variety of flowers even in tropical countries
The many non-Catholics who attended could not help being deeply impres"
sed with such solemn service..
Similar s.ervice.v to tho-e of So. McAlester were held at Krebs at 10-30
A. M. Here the people were simply delighted at seeing their former pas-
tor officiate Pontifically in their own church erected by himself and stand-
ing as a monument of his zeal and devotedness in their behalf. There was
solemn Benedictton of the Most Blessed Sacrament at 7.30 P M after which
the Rt. Rev. Abbot gave an appropriate sermon This day's devotion clo-
sed by the children passing in front of the Crib and offering their thoughts
and aspirations to the Infant of Bethlehem
The Annual Retreat for the Fathers and Religious of Sacred Heart
Abbey opened on Sunday the 17th ult and closed on Ue 22d The sermons
were delivered by Rev Father Vincent Montalibet. O S. B who treated
the difficult subject-matter in a style and force of language seldom if ever
surpassed.
The Sisters of Mercy had thir semi-annual Retreat during Christina:
week. It was also conducted by Rev. Father Vincent
Sacred Heart College opened its Spring Term on the 3rd. 111st 'I he
Rev Director has spared no pains ta have everything in thorough working
order for the return of the 95 enrolled students of last Term and for a dozen
or more new applicants
In union with the expressed wishes of the Pottawattomie tribe we of-
fer our best New Year greetings to Sucrcd Heart ever-obling and most
