These natural products have been
found both east and west of us, and
there is reasonable ground to believe
they can be fcund here, at least expert;
so bold.
Now what we ought to do i3 to urge
prompt action. No delay should be
tolerated, for if we can slrike oil here
all the railrords headed this way will
pass through Hobart. This will secure
our future. So let us be up and doing.
A well was begun eight and a half
miles southeast of Hobart on the 11th,
on the farm of W. I. Seney, by F. W.
Eastman of tbe firm of Kinney & East-
man. of Sedan, Kan. Already a depth
of 200 feet has been reached, but a deep
well will be drilled unless oil in paying
quantity should be sooner found.
M r. Eastman is a practical oil man
and he should be encouraged to move
bis drilling outfit naar Hobart just as
soon as he finishes the four wells which
he has contracted to put in in the vi-
cinity of where he is now at work.

inant party unanimously declared ic
favor of admitting Oklahoma and In-
dian Territory as one state, and by a
vote of 110 to 05 declared in favor oI
admitting Arizona and New Mexico as
one state. It v.aa also agreed that both
of the statehood questions should be
incorporated in the same bill.
The opposition to the program was
directed against incorporating all the
territories in one bill. Especially was
this true of those mambers who are for
the immediate admission of Oklahoma
and Indian Territory. But a large ma-
jority of the caucus advocated an omni-
bus measure, so a3 to dispose of all the
territories at once and not by piece-
meal.
The program of the leaders was pre-
sented by Represantative Hamilton,
chairman of the committee on territo-
ries, iQ a resolution which he offered.
It declared it to be the sense of tbe
conference that two states be created
out of the four territories, and that the
comi.nttee on territories be required to
formulate this action in one bill.
The Hamilton bill, which was intro-
duced ai the opening of the present
session, contains the necessary provis-
ions to meet the requirements of the
resolution, and will undoubtedly be the
measure reported by the committee.
But for the question of embodying a
constitutional amendment prohibiting
the sale of liquor in the t*o territories,
the bill would be reported before the
holidays. It is practically in shape to
report now, but the liquor hearings will
not be hurried, and it now seems as if
the measure will not be reported until
after the holidays.
