OKLAHOMA ROMANCE
Dr. Dukes Comes to Oklahoma
to make his Fortune Where-
with to Claim his Bride
Kansas City, Feb. 8. According to ad-
viees from New York there is a bit of
romance connected with the marriage of
Mimh Isabclle Perkana to Dr. John Wil-
liam Duke, which took place recently in
this city. The wedding was the result of
a love affair of the first night sort, aud
the bride crossed half of the continent
in order that it should take place. She
came here from New York, city and met
Dr. Duke, who is an Oklahoma physi-
cian, and whose health at the time for-
bade him making a journey to the East.
They were quietly married and returned
to Oklahoma.
The bride is a member of a prominent
family, and her mother was married un-
der similar circumstances many year*
ago, going from New York to San Fran-
cisco to marry, her husband beiu^ a !)r.
Perkins, surgeon in the United States
navy. Some years after their marriage
Dr. Perkins was assigned to Japan and
was never heard from by his wife and
family. Mrs. Perkins, with her two
daughters, left California and located at
Wcllingford, Conn. Mrs. Perkins, as well
as her daughters, was a woman of rare
beauty, and seemed to possess a fascin
ution irresistible to members of the med-
ical profession, all three wedding doc-
tors. A daughter, Clarrisa, became the
wife of Dr. Frank Coudert, brother of
Frederick < 'ottdert, and a noU'd physi
elan and surgeon.
The Perkins family belonged to the
best of New York society, the two girls
being introduced by the wife of Judge
Clioa&e. brother of United States Am
bassador Choate, to England. tue rei-
ki ns and the Choates are relatives, it
was while mingling with New York s
"400'' that Miss Isabella Perkins form-
ed the acquaintance of Dr. Duke. He ftll
desperately in love with her at first sight
anil he was assured that his love was re-
turned. He was poor, however, and
this fact to some extent dampened his
ardor, but he was young, able and ambi-
tious, and obtaining a promise from his
sweetheart that she would grant him
time in which to build a foundation up
•n which they both might safely re^t
their future, he started \\ est in search
•f fortune. He landed in the Oklahoma
country soon after it was opened for set-
tlement and there he has since remained,
amassing a goodly fortune. A bhort
Mine ago he notified his sweetheart that
u redemption of her promise would be
agreeable and the day was set. He start-
ed for New York, but became ill and
was compelled to stop over in this city,
lie wired Misa Perkins, who with the
pluck of her mother, boarded a train for
Kansas ( ity, where, she joined her lovti
and became Mrs. Dr. John William Duke.
JMrs. Perkins died recently.

SHOULD A MAN BK VAIN?
Certainly he should. He should have
ambition to look well and feel good,
which he cannot do unless be digests
his food. Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin
aids digestion, clears the head, keeps the
bowels regular and makes a man feel at
peace with the whole world Try it. Scott
