Photographing the Mirage.
The photograph represented a pr.im
grove, a lake and a caravan of laden
camels and white-robed Arabs moving
in stately wise across the pale desert.
“That is a picture of a mirage, or fata
morgana, said the traveler. “I took
it in the Sahara, not far from Tom-
bcuktoo. There was really northing
there but sand— wastes on wastes of
sand, but my dazzled eyes saw that
mirage ana my camera gaw it, too.
This is the on!y_ mirage picture I hare
ever got. i have tried in Ceylcn, in ,
Egypt and in .'Morocco to photogrinh y\• • t
various ini rage 3, but always in vain, ' ^
There are scarcely six,mirage photos
in existence.'
