Telephone No. 41.
Oklahoma liaa but one ({real Issue,
and but one great party. That Issue
Is the free homes Issue, and that party
la the free homes party. There Is not
a personality In the nation so great as
to draw support from this Issue or in
any manner lessen the energy of thi
fight for It.
Personal preferences should be and
will be given up to help along th(
free homes movement. It Is thi
overshadowing Issue, and '. f more im-
portance to Oklahoma than the tariff,
or the money Issues, or the chances of
Individuals to secure official favors.
This county is willing to sacrifice its
personal preferences, or even Its
chances of securing a single appoint
ment under the next administration,
if by su"h sacrifice the free homes
cause is aided.
To be plain, this county should and
will be for Beed, if by favoring Reed
for presidential nomination gains a
single vote in congreus for free home?.
This county should be aud win
be for Heed If the free hornet
bill passes the house f> r
it is conceded that a bill
of so much importance can not past
without Speaker Heed's active sup-
port. It is not doing justice to such
a friend to cay that it is his duty 10
aid in the passage of the free homes
bill—that it is in line witu repub-
lican pol cy and practice. Mr Reed
no doubt is endowed with impulset,
passions, desires and ambitions very
similar to those that move other
hur'an beings to action. It is reason
able to suppose that Mr. Heeil will
wo rk a little harder for an apprecia-
tive territory than for a coldly indif
fcrent one.
Dele-gate Fl) nn's reputation ti<.
pends npoa the passage of the trte
h imes bill tbroi.gh the house. The
republican party of the territory
pledged him to the earnest support
of the measuro. In the campaign
Mr. Flynn went farther than tho
convention, by buvniug the bridges
behind him and staking all on the
passage of the measure. He should
have the activc co-operation of the
parly in hiB (tforts to make good his
pledge.
The Timis-Joubnal feels safe in
declaring that Oklahoma county will
be in line with the free homes
counties in any mpasure to advance
the free homes can - .
Tiie supreme court has placed itself
in a ridiculous attitude in upholding
ths restrictions on tho probate judges,
and denying the validity of a similar
law rtstrlctlng the clerks of the dls
trice court. It should be un*"
ing uiatiL between Peter Mahei md
Fitzslmmons at Paso del Norti?
When Dick secured his ticket and
started for the train la response to
Dan Stuart's Invitation, the boys at
Perry, and Guthrie, and Oklahoma
City, gathered around Dick and bade
him a tearfnl farewell.
S ime of them even boarded 1 he train
and went with Diclr, determined at
least, to accompany him as far as the
southern boundaries of Oklahoma.
The reporter observed several of
them, notably. Judge Uaie and Mr.
Douglas and Attorney General Gal-
bralth in close communiou with Dick
and all evidently much affected.'
Dick sltfcerely damned with much
car estncBs the ypponcnts of the
maoly art of self-rdefense, and par-
ticularly that great religious combi-
nation, Grover Cleveland, Gov. Cul

but the distinguished lurists wltn
ulm, wh'le deplorli g the degeneracy
of modern days and the tendency to
substitute the revolver for the list,
felt compelled to differ from iheli
rlend.
Thoy Insisted that Dick was unjust
n his strictures on the legislature.
"It was true," they admitted, "that
the legislature had gone wrong on the
ooxlng business, but," thee said, "See
now t"ey have stoop grandly up In
favor of easy divorce and 90 days."
When the boys liually left Dick at
; lie Oklahoma station, they aim' si
oroke down, all of them. Thoy never
expect to see him again. When Dick
crosses the Rio Grande at K1 Paso,
that, thoy say, will bo the last 01
