NEW STATE POULTRYMAN
December, 1907.
THE BUFF LEGHORNS
(By E. G. Colburn, Chicago, 111.)
Are they real Leghorns? Yes. To-
day they are bred true to Leghorn
type and characteristics.
Are they good layers? Yes. They
lay every month in the year.
Are they no-setters? Yes. Occasion-
ally an old hen wants to set and makes
a good mother.
Are they a good table fowl? A Buff
Leghorn less than a year old is a
dainty morsel. An old Leghorn is not
very good eating, neither is any other
old chick.
Are they hard to raise? No; they
are a hardy breed; eggs as a rule are
fertile.
Do they mature young? Yes; a Buff
Leghorn pullet will lay before six
months of age. If not, something is
wrong with the man who owns her.
Do they stand confinement? Yes;
but as Leghorns are naturally very ac-
tive and cover a great deal of ground.
Give them all the room you possibly
can.
Is it hard to get an even buff color?
It is, but it can be done. Why didn't
you go to the last big poultry show
and see for yourself?
Are Buff Leghorns popular? Yes;
each year shows an increase in num-
bers and enthusiasm of breeders of
the variety, and our club is in a pros-
perous condition and that speaks well
for any breed.
The buff fowl of every kind is here
to stay, and it is admitted by old poul-
trymen that the color of the Buff Leg-
horn approaches nearest the ideal
buff. Old breeders of white and
brown Leghorns are taking up the
buffs and are not disappointed in
them. So get into the band wagon, try
the Buff Leghorns and be happy ever
afterward.
The Buff Leghorn club has issued
a 54-page book, which will be sent
free to any one asking for it, giving
information about those egg ma-
chines, the Buff Leghorns.
THE OLEO REMEDY CO.
Of New York city as selling a rem-
edy known as Oleo Gallinene. This
remedy has cured fowls that were con-
sidered by the best fanciei-s to be un-
able to live. It never spoils in any
climate and never deteriorates in its
medicinal properties or power, and is
absolutely harmless to human animal
or bird life, and is used both inter-
nally and externally. Thousands of
bottles have been sold and yet the
manufacturers have to hear the first
complaint against their claim for its
efficacy. Trial bottle ten cents.
