From Oban to Invarneas, through the “Great Glen of SeotlamT on tha
Caledonian canal, la a moat delightful trip. Few will forget the sylvan beauty
of them shores. In the lard of bluebells and heather, of clnus and kilts.
We reached Inverness on a fine evening Just at sunset. This capital of
tim Highlands la aet In a landscape of purely Highland aplendor. The pictur-
esque caatle on Ita elevated site, the broad, clear river wind-
ing its way to the sen. and the hills In the background gay
with purple heather and green fern form a beautiful picture

While at Inven)em we
■pent a day at the “High-
land Show." This la the
principal stock show In
Scotland and meets at the
different centers each year.
It Is a hundred years since
the first Highland Show was
held, and ever since It Is
worthily celebrated annual-
ly.
It waa roost Interesting
for Americans to se« the es-
htblts of live stock, the eat
tie, horses, ponies, sheep
and gnats, a* very different
from those of our own coun-
try. Handsome Clydesdale
and other horaes, fat cattle
of many kinds, and pretty

sheep with broad bucks and coats of thick, creamy wool. Here were a hun-
dred and more Shetland ponies from tha Shetland Islands off the tout of
Scotland near by, little beauties of all Klees, some tiny ones, bameased to carta,
driven by children, and others larger, ridden by boys. Especially beautiful
were the Highland cattle, with their long, sweeping forms, slightly curved
horns, broad brows and coats of red, light yellow, brlndle or white. They have
A wealth of thick hair to protect them from the cold of the eevere winters In
the mountains. Some, Indeed, have hair five and six Inches In length.
These creatures remind one of the pretty cattle pictures we see painted
ao wonderfully by ltosa Honhour, but of course the Highland cattle Is Ufe are
Mill more beautiful.
