AN ANARCHIST BOMB
FOB KING ALFONSO
Conspirators Were Unsuccessful
Their Attempt on Spanish King's
Life—Would be Murderer
' a Suicide.
Madrid, May 25.—Following a night
of search and inquiry tne police say
that a bomb here was Intended for
King Alfonso.
The explosive was hurled at the
monument erected to the victims of
the attempt against Alfonso on his
wedding.day, May 31, 1906, but the
authorities believe that the original
intention of the Anarchists was
strike down the king on his arrival at
•he railway station on his return from
London. Finding that he would be un-
able to get close enough to Alfonso to
throw the bomb at him, the Anarchist
took vengeance on the monument.
Alfonso is hurrying home from King
Edward's funeral to see Queen Vic
torla, who is ill, following the birth
and death of a son last week.
As a result of the police's discovery
the plans for King Alfonso's return
have been changed, and it is now ar-
ranged for him to enter the city by
motor car.
The bomb thrower, who was wound
ed by his own weapon, proves to have
been a South American.
Like Manuel Morales, who was be-
lieved to have headed the conspiracy
against the king four years ago. the
South American committed suicide
when he found that his capture by the
police was imminent.
PENNSYLVANIA MINERS RIOT
Striking Foreigners Fought With State
Police at Pittston—Trouble is
Spreading.
Scranton, Pa., May 25.—A riot broke
among striking miners at No. 14 col
liery of the Pennsylvania Coal com
pany nGar Pittston following an at
tempt of a pease of state police to
disperse a crowd of Italians who
threatened others when a work train
reached the colliery.
One foreigner, Peter Sura, was so
badly clubbed by state policemen that
he may die.
The riot was finally quelled and an
other one broke at the Ewen colliery
a mile away, but the rioters there
dispersed when troopers arrived
The strike has spread to the Butler,
the Hillside and the Central collieries
of the Pennsylvania Coal company
leaving only the Barnura mine of that
company in the Pittston district at
■work. Already 10,000 mine workers
are involved.

BOYS NOT GUILTY OF MURDER
Kansas County Attorney Believes
Frank Kopar and John Sellk
Were Only Careless.
Topeka, Maw 25.—Frank Kopar and
John Sellk, the two boys arrested for
the murder of Arthur James, near
Rossville, were turned over to the
juvenile court and released on bond
for a hearing June 3.
The charge of murder has been dis-
missed and the only charge against the
boy* will be that they aro careless and
should be under the supervision of the
court Instead of their parents. If the
coroner's jury, which meets Friday,
Bhould find that the death of Arthur
James was a deliberate murder, the
charges against the boys will be re-
vived at once.
The county attorney expects the jury
to find tho death was purely accidental
and that there will bo no further prose-
cution except the juvenile court will
retain jurisdiction over the two boys.
