cent for each additional word.News-
paper day rates shall not be more
than one-third of one cent for each
word; night rate, one-sixth of one
cent. The bill seeks to throw string-
ent regulations around telegraph
companies.

several weeks the civil engineers foi
the Hutchinson .V Southern have
been at work oil the extension from
Blackwell across to the Santa l e
road. Different roiit.m have been
surveyed and the choice between
them will be made next week. This
is the only point to he settled before
the work begins. The company is
ready to build the extension and w ill
commence us soon as the stopping
point is selected. Mr. Bradford, pres-
ident of the company, said to-day
that the extension will be ia opera-
tion, certain, inside of three months.
The Smallpox Stamped Out.
There in not now a case of small
pox ill the territory of Oklahoma.
All patients in Lincoln county have
been discharged, and business has re
sullied its usual gait.
There are a few eases east of Lin-
coln county in the Creek country,but
I they are quarantined so well that
the disease is not spreading.
The report that smallpox had de-
veloped among the KleKupoo J In-
dians proves to have been «i canard.
