NUMBER TEN
COMMERCIAL CLUB.
Organized Monday . Night—Officers
Elected and an Executive Com-
Tnittee Appointed.
Several Fairview’s leading
buBine&Bmen held a meeting in the
townsite office, Monday night, and
organized a Commeroiail Club.
An organization of this kind has
long been needed, and for -some
time past the matter has been
£ ^ quietly talked up, resulting in the
meeting Monday night. The fal-
lowing officers were elected :
President, Will J. (Graves.
Sec. and Treas, S.-J. Bard?ley.
Executive Committee:
H. Clat Willis *
H. A. Bower
' J. E. (iARNETT •
J.'A. Floyd

Waterworks, cement plaster
works and the question of induoirig
the Orient railroad to move the
balance of their car repair outfit
and crew from Anthony, to Fair-
view, were souse of the questions
discussed.
Before the meeting adjourned it
was decided that Will J. Graves
should be sent to Anthony, to con-
fer with some of the Orient people'
in regard to the removal of the re-i
pairing outfit to this place. He
left on this mission on Tuesday’s
Orient.
The new organization is starting
outright and as all the officers are
hustlers, we expect to see munch ac-
complished for the good of the town.
Every oitizen who really has the
welfare of the city at heart should
back up the officers of the new
plub in every way possible.
5th. Work up another telephone
line to the west and southwest.
6th. Keep up the agitation for
improved county roads leading to
the city.
These and many other things
equally important come under the
legitimate scope of the new organ-
ization’s efforts and we prediot that
they will meet the requirements.
This club, if properly encouraged,
will speedily bring aboqt what
every citizen has wished for and
worked for—a Greater Fairviaw.
SPELLING CONTEST.
To the pupils, teachers and pat-
rons of our schools: My experience
with pupils and teachers has proven
the need of stimulation in spelling.
In order to bring about favorable
results I have decided upon the fol-
lowing plan. -Three contests are to
be held for the pupils of our disrict
schools from V to VII grades inclu-
sive,
.1. Local contests i. e., the contest
in each school. Two best spellers
will represent the district in the
itownship contest.
II. Township contest will meet in
their respective townships at central
points to be designated by the county
superintendent. The school whose
representative spells down in this
contest will oe given the banner.
III. Central contests: The delega-
tes choseu at the township contest
will meet at Carmen, Okla. The
«ohool whose representative spells
down, will be given the County
Banner.
Bates:—The date of local contest
left with teacher. The date of to wn-
«hip contest, Saturday evening
March .3, 06. The date of central
content, Satruday evening, March
10, 06.
Worda:—Words will be selected
from those common in business and
can do, if given proper encourage-
ment, among which are the follow-
ing in addition to those above
mentioned: *
1st. Keep clQse tab on the pro-
posed railroads from the southeast
and if they build through this
part of the, country, see that Fair-
view gets them if possible.*
2nd. Get some one interested
in an electrio light plant.
3rd. Work up at least two more
rural mail routes.
4th. Make arrangements to get
the Isabella, Rusk and Fairview
telephone line into town and con-
nected with the city exchange.
Theremre many things this olub ,in geueral use. No speial text will
be used and no list of words sent
out. Pupils will be tested in their
general ability to spell. Teachers
should 'drill in oral and written
spelling. The successful candidates
will speak much for the teacher’s
work. Most truly,
S.V. MeGreevy,-CountySupt.
A Democratic Idea.
It would seem that there is no
longer any serious objection to the
admission of Oklahoma and the In-
dian Territory to stathood as the
state of Oklahoma. We had thought
that Oklahoma was entitled to be-
come a state years ago and favored
statehood for Oklahoma alone, with

Merchant—Certainly, my old friend.
Want him advanced, eh?
“No. I want him kept just where
he is until hiv daughter gets tired
waiting for him to' be able to marry."
"Um—how long will1 that he?"
“About six weeks.”—N. Y. Weekly.
Alas! Poor Man.
"Doctor,” said tho bride of a year, “I
wish you would try to persuade my hus-
band to lay aside the cares of business
and take a few weeks’ rest. I’m sure he
Is killing himself with overwork.”
"Why do you think so?” asked the
