Hardware Men Give Their
Views no to Prohibition.
Most Important Meeting of Commercial Club
to Confer With Regard to Cotton
Oil Mill Site.
Caddo County Made the Prizo
Gain in Second Congress
lonnl District.
Tho Democrat interviewed the
roproBontutiveB of tho hardware
buBirieBS today with reference to
their expeo'ations as to tho busi-
ness outlook under prohibition.
Mr. Morria Leonhard of Dun
oan fc Leonhard does not antici-
pate any bad effect in the busi-
ness done Dy his firm. He ox-
nnntn (hnt thev will BOll lUflt aB
many nails aa many agricultur-
al implements as many vehicles
atoveB kitchen utonsilB and other
artiolos as ever. Mr. Leonhard
when asked nB to the usual
credits extended to purchasers of
farming implements in the spring
to be paid for in tho fall that
prohibition would cut very little
differenoo in strengthening their
outstanding oredits as tho firm
made a praotioe of extending no
oredit to tho booze fighter. Oo-
oasionally they were caught but
tho oases aro bo rare as to make
very little difference in figures
based on a year's business
This firm iB figuring on greatly
inoreaBing its etook in tho new
building which Mr. Dietrich is to
build for them. They are going
on juBt tho same and look for no
ohange in tho favorable trade
conditions for tho Caddo county
dealer. Mr. Dietnoh is going
ahead with the double brick
building and will spend as much
money on Anadarko'a fine now
opera house as he had planned
to spend.
J. C. Stelznor. of the firm of
Stelrner & Son oxpoats a falling
off in the plumbing and tinning
bueinesa. Ho expects building
to bIod in a creat measure and
basoB hiB views on his exper
ionces in tho towns of Wamogo
and 8aint Mary's. Mr. Stelznor
looks for a number of thrifty
German tanners to leave Caddo
county aB a result of Tuesday's
vote and aays that the German
farmers snend twioe aB much
monoy in trade as do the Ameri
oan farmers. Mr. Stelzner said
that in a few yaars his busineis
in Wamego KanBas fell off'from
$84000 a year to 27000 a year
and that this was the oruiso of
his leaving thoro.
Frank Callahan said that we
oould expeot a decline in realty
vuIuob that thia would be a
oinch. As regards hiB own bus-
ines6 however be anticipated
no deoline whatever. The town
might be expeoted in a short
time to pull up to its present good
ojndition
Fred Plait of John Pfaff fc
Sons i3 not dinturbed in regard
to prohibition Mr. Pfaff would
not form any conclusions ob the
oondition upon which we are en-
tering ia an entirely now ono to
him us it is to most of us. Ho
Baid that. if the firm's trade in
creased so that they would take
in more profit than the inoreaee
in taxes would amount to the
ohange would of course be
boneficial to thorn. Ho believeB
that there will necessarily be a
falling off in tho reoeipts of the
electric lighting plan' aa the sa-
loons are great users of eleotrio
lighting auoh more than the
merchandising places that are
expeoted to take the pluoea of
tho saloons. Tho firm of John
Pfaff it Eona expeot to keep on
with their business just tho same
as they would otherwise not
anticipating any change as far
aB their trado ia concerned.
Business Mon of Anadarko:
Upon rooeipt of lottor from
Indian Agent Blackmon trans-
mitting a copy of rogulations for
conveyance of land of Indian
minors wild learning that tho
land was required to bo advertis-
ed for 00 days ti committeo ap-
pointed by tho Exeoutivo Com-
mitteo of the Commeroial olub
waited upon Indian Agent Blaok-
mon to ndviBH with him regard-
ing tho situation. If tho ad-
vertisement is insisted upon and
Agent Blackmon must insist up
it unless otherwise instructed by
higher authority the sale of the
land and convoyanoo to Mr.
Wostten oannot be completed by
the 1st of Deoember when his
oontraot with us expires.
Agent Blackmon raado soveral
suggestions however whioh it iB
needful for tho olub to consider
and whatever notion the olub de-
termines to tako should bo taken
at once that no time may bo lost.
Therefore a meeting of the
Commercial Club and tho buni
ness mon interested in seounng
this projeot for Anadarko is
called for 8 o'olook this evening
at tho city hall and a full at
tendance ia earnestly aaked.
This is a matter of first im-
portance to ovory business man
and every owner of roalostate in

Chicago Ills. Sept. 21 After a
somewhat weak opening- caused by
lower cables and a renewed attack on
prices by the elevator crowd brokers
Identified with tho bull clique came in
and by. their persistent bidding ad-
vanced the market and caused a strong
undertone at the close. There appears
to be but ono side to the market now
and that tho bull aid?. This bull move-
ment is being engineered by the same
crowd whoso prestage is unequalcd
and who successfully put through the
last big up turn. All such movements
are accompanied by frequent recess-
ions such as occurred yesterday and
soon this morning and should be taken
advantage of to increase your line.
Minneapolis reported receipts today of
143 cars againsi 319 last year and Du-
lutll 627 against 880 last year. Our
prediction is that May wheat will soil
110 before Saturday night.
Corn. Tho action of tho corn market
followed closely that of tho wheat
opening lower in response to the weak
cables but fair support and in sympa-
thy with wheat recorded an advance
of moro than a full cent from tho open-
ing. We believe corn to bo a salo
around 59 cents for the May option.
