Washington Jan. 10.. The govern-

rated above has been made by the

Persons who permitted their friends
to schedule lots III their name nnd

The above Is as near a statement of
the attitude of the dept. of Justice
ami the department of the Interior
as can he obtained at this time. A
definite statement of th program of
the prosecutions against the alleged
fraudulent holders of town lots there
was denied on the grounds Hint It
would be Improper to give out any
information In such cases until a
grand Jury had returned Indictments.
It was not even stated that a grand
Jury would bo called to pass upon
these matters but the fnct that a
special federal grand Jury has been
called on .January IS and the state-
ment Hint no information could bo
proporlv given out until the grand
Jury takes action. Is apparently suf-
Relent evidence to warrant the state-
ment that the inspectors who have
been Investigating town lot schedules
liv half a dozen towns in Oklahoma
have asked the grand Jury to take no-
tion. And while this Is true there Is a
satisfactory note In the statement
that Innocent purchasers are not to
lie harrasscd In tho possession of
property for which they have paid
their nionoy In good faith. There are
hundreds of Innocent purchasers who
havo been niado defendants In the
suits In Muskogee Tulsa. Okmulgee
Wagoner nnd other Oklahoma towns
and theso suits havo clouded tho titles
making sales or loans Impossible.
The fact that tho .government h
about ready to mako a final show-
down before a grand Jury will bring
these nnnoylng matters to a close
on a way or another.
The government agtnts havo cov-
ered many states In Instigating
the maimer tin widen lots worn
scheduled to persons who never saw
them and later transferred to Mio
Ivursnii of Interest usually Hrlnx in
the town where the lots vert' located.
In nuo Instance which has become.
have equal advantages
known here ii Is alleged that a for-
mer prominent business man in
Muskogee now deceased scheduled
ii large number of lots to persons liv-
ing In Tennessee. Agents for the
government went to Tennesseo and
located all these parties thev could
tlnd and made a report on the action
they took In the town lot schedule
In Muskogee. It was stated at the
department of Interior that many
states were covered In this manner.
Tills wa stho real reason for the do-
iay In getting the town lot suits to
trial anil 'not the dilatory tactics of
lawyers representing the defense as
alleged hy certain' parties Interested.
