Strike on Sewer System.
About 100 men went out on a strike
today on the sewer system. The causo
of tho strike Is tho refusal of tne
sewc coatractor to pay $1.75 per day
for labor Instead of $1.50 as hereto
fore. In view of Hip tact that tnu
men would havo to dig somo very
deep ditches they thought It was
worth a quarter more per day for their
work.
Evory negro quit work and only
about eight white men' wero left at
work. Contractor Ulen Is absent nnd
his foreman Mr. Moran refused to
