United Confederate Veterans.
Nver In tho history of this city of
cenvontlons and cnrniyals have such
elaborate preparations been made for
tho reception and entertainment of
peoplo from abroad as have been
made for this occasion. The great
mass of tho visitors will have arrived
by tomorrow morning and the rail
roads estimate that fully 125000 per-
son will be hero by tho time tho con-
vention opens at noon. Today's ar-
rivals are loud in their pralso of tho
local arrangBmenta and it is conceded
that tho present reunion will bo one
of lite most successful ever held by
tho organisation. Tho convention of
the United Sonn of Contoderate Vet.
ornns and several auxiliary bodies will
help lo greatly swell tho attendance
wannt street at. unarms street and i
other main thoroughfares? are brilliant-
in flags and bunting; all the side
streets aro decorated and so aro all
tho public buildings and many of tho
rojldences in tho chy. The old "Stars
and liars" form as a matter of course
the prominent feature in the scheme
of decorations but tho "Stars and
Stripes" are also seen on every hand.
In preparing for the gathering Now
Orleans wa compelled to erect a hew
hall or au:llloriuni. A building was
needed that would seat 10000 or moro
and there is no building of that size
hore. One therefore had to bo erect-
ed and tills called for the expendi-
ture of some $26000. Tho piaco chos-
on for tho auditorium after much d's-
cusilon was a vacant square recently
purchased by the city and including
the hendqnsrters of Androw Jncksou.
Located throe blocks south of Canal
streot. In the very heart of tho olty
tho sito of tho audltqrlum is opposllo
tho $t. Charloa hotel which Is tho
headquarters of tho reunion. Near
by i& the old and historic -UoyaJ Hotel
building which is being used -as bar-

ing veterans.
The parade ot Uib veterans will

celebration. In Louisiana and Missis-
sippi the publle schools will glye a
holiday and thousands of school child
roa will pom into the city from neigh-
boring towns to witness what they
will probably never have a chanco to
see again tho coternna who aro left
of tho famous armloe of Virginia and
Tennessee led by tho surviving com-
mnc rs. the old flag the old uniform
and to hear "Dixie" nnd te old Con-
federate yell ftr the last time.
In addition to the buslno&si jf the
United Conforerite Vetenuni nnd of
the kindred organizations which meet
he llwa is a dtnlnet and growing
octal aldo to the reunion. The cus-
