Source or uoror.
An Interesting enumeration has bee
glvon of the sources of color. From
this It nppearn that the corhlncal In-
sects furnish the gorgeous cnrmlne
crimson scnrlet carmine and purple
lokos; the octopus gives sepia that Is
tlio Inky fluid which the creature dis-
charges In order to render tlio water
opaque when attacked; tho Itidlnn yel-
low comes from the cniml; Ivory chips
produce tho ivory black and bone blnck;
tho exquisite Prussian blue comas from
fusing noises' hoofs and pigs' blood;
blue blnck roraos from tho charcoal of
the vine stock; Turkey red is mado
from tho tnnuJcr plant which grown in

borhood of Siena Italy; raw umber Is

mnstlc tree which grows in tho Gre
ciun aruhlpolugo; bistre Is tho soot ofl

tained from the precious lapis lazuli Is
found in tho market.
ftettliKi Hid of tho Acid.
An cxploilng expedition in n remote
part of China had a queer esporlonco.
which one of the party thus relates: "Ai
large Jiottlo of carbolic acid had licon
broken Inside Its wooden case. Wo ex-
hausted our Ingenuity in hopeless ef-
fort to unscrew tlio cover. We -feared
to carry It farthor as the burning tears
distilled by It destroyed everything
they touched. We dared not throw it
aside lost tho unsophisticated heathen
should drink It as a cheering or me-
dicinal beverage. Wo lind no tltuo to
wait and empty It as the fatal fluid
would only trlcklo drop hy drop through
a chink which had been cautiously
and laboriously excavated with a blunt
huntlug knife. What wore we to do7
Degrading as tho confession must ap-
pear wo had to deposit the torpedo n
the middle of the yard and throw
bricks at It until It wns smashed."

There ore several varieties of opals
and thereforo several degrees of merit.
The precious or noblo or prifiiitui optil

WHY MOTHERS .
WORRY
Did you ever hear a mother
vorry over a plump child?
There is no better bank of
health for a child to "draw
from than a good supply of
healthy flesh.
Scott's Emulsion not only
.'i
gives a child weight and
plumpness but it feeds the
brain bones and nerves with
strength and active power.
Fewer mothers would
worry if they knew more
about bcotts bmulsion.

An Anecdote of Dlaraelt.
On one occasion Disraeli's habit of
exaggerated uduluttaiu led to so .hold an
nttemptliy the fair recipient to turn It
to her advantage that ho was driven to
save the sltuution In a way Uiat was
very far from being appreciated. The
charuier a young lady of "advanced
views" finding tho great man so ex-
ceedingly profuse In his attentions
thought it an excellent opportunity for
making him a convert to her Utopian
ideals which were of tho most daringly
democratic ordor. After a long reclUi-
tinn of her propaganda she wound up
with a fervid nmi"j to the prime min-
ister to lmlnortnlrze hltnuolf by espous-
ing her Ingenious panacea for remedy-
lug tho wrongs of humanity. As she
llnlshed hur Impassioned harangue
with Hushed cheoks and flashing eye
Dlsruoll who hud been silently watch-
ing her with apparently the profound-
set sympathy ond admiration suddenly
dropped lit eyeglass nud softly uiur

School District Unnole to Pa Teach-
ers' Salaries.
The state superintendent of nubile
Ins motion is in recept of several let
ters from officers of school districts
1n several Oklahoma counties asking
.for information in regard to relief
which fan be affordel tuem In the
matter of indebtedness which thes;
school flif-trlets have ncquired.
A cenain school dis.rict whose of
fleers hae written for Information
has an assessed valuation of $141710
The district has been bonded for
school houses In the amount tq $4400
and also owes on last year's warrants
an amount of $3000. The bank have
refused to cash the warrants with the
result that the teachers now employ-
ed in that district can not receive a
cent of salary for services rendered.
The majority of tho teachers in that
district are from Missouri and Texas
and are now unable to even pay their
note! bills anu expenses.
These districts which have accrued
such an In lebtednj-ss and have failed
to conduct their schools in a business
like manner have been advised ihat
no relief can be given thern.
CUSTODIAN OF WARRANTS
Contempt of Court Proceedings Brought
Against City Clerk Sexlas.
City Clerk Sexlas was brought before
the district court yesterday to show
cause if any why ho should not bo
punished for contempt of court on ac-
count of -refusing to give up certain
warrants held by him to tho sheriff i
Aiier arguing tno case it wbb taken
under advisement and Soxlas was
'maie custodian of tho warrants until
further order of the court.
It appears that tho Bank of Com-
merce issued an attachment on certain
warrants payable to Charles T. Derr
ns the property of Dprr on an amount
duo tho bank from Derr. It is.further
stated that Derr also owod tho Guth-
rie National bank and tho warrants
had heen assigned that bank. The
deputy sheriff served an order of at-
tachment on the city dark but ho re-
fused to turn over tho warrants
henco ho wns requested to appear be-
foio tho court to answer for contompt.
