enco or the M. E. church and of the
Indian Mission conference of tho M. 11.

lishment of a great institution of learn-
ing to be known as the Epworth Uni-
versity at Oklahoma City has created
more lnterost than anything In the re-
cent history of cducatlonallsm under
tho guidance of the Methodist who
havo always been strong believer . In
education and Us bonoflts. It Is the
oponlng wedge In an effort to settle
a strife that bogan nearly sixty years
ago and which has caused two great
divisions of the Mothodlsta one
known as tfie Church South and the
othor as the Church North. Bach con-
ference appointed committees to dis-
cuss a plan for an university and they
have Jointly accepted a proposition to
locate the Institution In Oklahoma
City.
The proposition that has been ac-
cepted provides that Oklahoma City
gives a site for a campus and the un
iversity buildings of fifty acres locat-
ed Immediately north of tho city and
which has beon added to the city and
eleven hundred lota adjoining nnd sur-
rounding the site. Tlieso lot are
connected with tho city by a street
railway and they aro to be sold nt
once and the proceeds aro to be used
In tho building of two buildings that
will be eroded this year. These build-
ings are to cost 150.000 oaeh and the
sale of the lots Is guaranteed to bring
this sum to the board that will ha-e
charge of the building of the univers-
ity. In addition to this amount the
conferences have each pledged $78000
that will be added to the amount given
by Oklahoma City and $600000 will
be Invested In the university before
the end of the year. Under the terms
of the grant made by Oklahoma City
the University will be liberal and will
be under the conduct of both branch-
es of the Methodist Uplscopal church.
There la considerable Interest mani-
fested here In the project and quite a
number of persona from this city will
take advantage of the excursion rate
of one fare to visit Oklahoma City on
June 17tb. 18th and 19th. whan these
lots will be sold. Lots purchased iu
this addlUon to Oklahoma City will
not only aid in the establishment of a
great Methodist Institution of learn -
lng but will also prove a prontable
