YOUNG CORBETT
WINS FEATHERWEIGHT
WHAT CAUSES DEAFNESS.
The Principal Cause la Curable but
Generally overlooked.
Marty things may cause deafnosfl
and vory often It 1b difficult to traco
a cause Some people Inherit doaf-
noss. Aouto Clnoasos Hko scarlot
foyer Bomdtlmos causeB doafnoss. But
by far the most common causo of loss
of hearing la catarrh of tho head and
throat.
A prominent BpeclallBt on ear
troubles gives as his opinion that nine
out of ten cases of deafness Is traced
to throat trouble; this isprobably ov-
erstated but tl Is certainly true that
Knocked out In the second rourM of
which onot minute anil U seend had
elapsed was the referco's verdict of
tho fistic battle between Young Oorbett
of Denver and Terry MerJovem. of
Brooklyn who has hold thf ?ath r
weight championship unflinchingly
since he won It from Georce Dlxnn IS
months ago.
Outwitted and outpointed with a
fighter Just tho sumo as himself. Mo-
Govern had to lower his colors thli nf
ternoon at the Nutmeg Athletic Club
to Toung Corbet within six minutes
from the start of the fight.
Young Corbett. who outside of ring
parlance Is Billy Rothwell got to be
the champion In loss than two -oundi
of flghtlmj and he did It ao pe-:otly
that there Was no doubt about It
The nliock to the New York cn;inn-
lasts wlio crowded tho boxing pav'llon
when the little champion was knocked
out In the second round was a rf-p-tltlon
of the dlsappotntmant exhibited
by the adherents of John L. Sullivan
when Corbett defeated him In New Or-
leans Terry was as fit ns the proverbial
fiddle but he wits not fast enough fur
his man. From the word "go" the men
went at each ot'.iur like gamecocks and
It looked a.3 11 either would go out In
the first round. McGovern got tin.'
worst of the opening round and In his
endeavor to get in left himself open sev-
eral times. Corbett stood oft Mcdovnrn
on every lead and trick but the Utile
Brooklyn boy wont on as If there were
nothing to It but the winners tnd of
the purse.
"When McGovern was knocked down
In the opening round there were cries
of dismay from his backers but his
wonderful recuperative powers woio
equal to the occasion and he was on
his feet Within seven ueconds.
This downfall seemed to take tho
stamina out of McGovern bu; ho
fought the round In clever style and
tried hard to stem the tide of defeat
which fieems to have set In against
him. He tried all his rushing work
which provod so profitable on former
occasions but Corbett met his every
curve and countered hard on neck Jaw
and head.
Down went Terry fagaln In the sec-
ond round and when he got up quickly
he rushed Hko a wild man. Ho show-
ed a lack of self restraint ana In a
burst of bad temper hit out left and
right Irrespective of all rules and us-
ages. These tactics apparently wore
just what Corbett was looking for. Ter-
ry was mixing things up with whltl-
wind velocity and throwing science to Wen; as well as physicians because
inc vinu3. i wus anyone s ngui .11
moro than half of all cases of poor
hearing wero caused by catarrh.
The catarrhal secretion In the nose
and throat finds Ho way Into tho
Eustachian tube and by clogging It up
very soon affects tho hearing and tho
hardening of tho secretion makes tho
loss of heaving permanent unless tho
catarrh which caused the trouble Is
cured.
Those who are hard of hearing may
think this a little far fetched but any
ono nt all observant must havo no-
ticed how a hard cold In tho head will
affect the hearing and that catarrh if
long neglected will certainly impair
the sense of hearing nnd ultimately
cause deafness.
If tho nose and throat aro kept clear
and free from tho unhealthy secre-
tions of catarrh tho hearing will nt
onco greatly Improve and anyone suf-
fering from deafness nnd catarrh can
satisfy themselves on this point by
using a fifty cent box of Stuart's
Catarrh Tablets a new catarrh cure
which nl tho past year has won the
nnnroval of thousands of catarrh Buf-

as Corbett feinted and suddenly 'lent
his right out when McGovern was side-
stepping. This blow Just grazed Mc-
Govern's head but a moment later Cor-
bett feinted again and after a rattling
exchange sent his right over to tho Jaw
and Terry went down and out. Whllo
the fallen champion was frantically try-
ing to regain his feet the crow.l yelled
madly.
The referee declared that tho younaf
Denver Ind had won. He won on his
merits as ho took no chance.
THE ROUNDS.
Round 1. McGovern tried for an op-
ening with his left and sent tho right
to Corbett'a Jaw. They cllnchod. In
the mix up both landed lefts. The ex-
changed lefts on the face and McGov-
ern rushing again sent his left to tho
body and right to the head. Corbett
was short on his leads and Terry bor-
ed him to the ropes with a hard right
over tho heart. McGovern ducked a
left swing and landed right clean on the
ye forcing Corbett to the topes. Cor-
bett came back plucklly with a left on
tho body which was countered with a
Tight over the heart from his opponent.
McGovern led again with his right
over tho heart from his opponent. Mc-
Govern led again Iwth his right land-
ing on his opponents shoulder nnd Cor
bett came back with a hard right over
the heart sending McQovern back. But
the Brooklyn boy retorted with tight
and left only to be met with a swing
on the Jaw. which sent him on his b.iLk.
He Jumped to his feet Immediately anil
went at his opponent hammer and tons
on the chest and face foro'g him tj
his knees. Corbett got up and the
round ended In one of the hottest mixes
on record with honors about even.
Round 2 McGovern rushed In with a
left to the body and the mcj clinched.
A rapid exchange of rights and lefts
followed. Corbott was on the defensive
and met Terry's rush with straight left
Jabs. Suddenly he brought up his left
uppercuttlng McGovern and sanding
him to the floor. McGovern took five
seconds of tho count and onmo back
like a wild man with left nnd right
swings. Science was thrown to the
winds and the boys began sluglng. Mo-
Govern wns very wild and they ma4s
a half circle of the ring fighting in this
manner. At this stage It looked like
anybody's fight should one of the vic-
ious swInerlnK Wows land. "While Cor
bett kept his head and seemed o bore
In better hla body blows were tinr-
entlv no stlffer than those of McGovern.
However he kept on forcing MoGovern
half across the ring and finally Terry
forgot his defense. He simply sav a
hurricane of blows coming towarj
him. and there was no guarding on his
part. Suddenly a right swinging upper--ut
landed squarely on the point of his
Jaw. and McGovern went down and out.
iTn was not rendered unconscious but
U as evident to all present that he
knew the championship had taken
wings as ho made wild efforts t je-
gain his feet. Referee White oalen off
tep seconds while McGovern violently
struggled. Corbett stopped back in
obedience to the referee's gesture al-
though he evidently was in doubt as
to his fallen opponent's condition. Mc-
Govern had given hltn such a grueling
argument that he was for the moment
dubious as to whether the BiooWyn
boy mtght not be aWe to come up agln
and renew the battle. But it wag all
