The Chandler News of last week de-
votes considerable space to the Frisco
railway eten'nn enterptlbo and Inci-
dentally takes occuslon to needlessly
abuso Uuthrlo and vilify Col. E 11
llrown Among olher things the
News says.
The Uuthrlo Leader grows very sar-
castic in speaking of the great elation
of Chandler ana Oklahoma City over
the visit of tho Frisco railroad ottlcials
who it says were only on a "hunting
trip " Yes thoy were on a hunting
trip but it was business they were
hunting for. They wero hunting for
tbe best routo on which to extend
their road and tho part of the terri-
tory whoso business would bo worth
moot to St. Louis. And they found
what they wero huntlug for. It any-
one doubts that thoy did he should
have teen the pleasure and satisfac-
tion with which they noted the big
piles of cotton and the buBy people
and crowded stores and tho interest
with which they collected facts and
figures about our produots and about
where wo marketed our products and
where we did our trading and hauled
our goods from Hut It would havo
given our Quthrio friends a Bevere
cbill if they could havo heard Presi-
dent Robinson and Manager Yokum
discussing their plans for turning the
buBluc6s of this county toward St.
Louis and relieving tho people of Lin-
coln county from all lurthor neces
sity of paying tribute to tho villago
on tho Cottonwood. Of courao wo feel
elated and wo don't care who knows
It liut Bay speaking of being elated
over visits of railroad people didn't a
little one horse railroad contractor
named llrown visit Guthrie recently?
And didn't tho Uuthrlo dailies an-
nounce the act under three column
bcare bcadingb? And didn't even tho
bootblacks and popcorn vendors sign
thoir notes for a few hundred to help
raise that wonderful ' '330000 bonus?"
And wasn't the great city of Uuthrlo
"elated" at that time' Perhaps not
but she was "near It" and if somo
real genuine bona tide responsible
railroad officials should pay her a visit
nnd walk her streets and praiso her
resources and compliment her business
activity aud talk about when she
-would got a new railroad wo fancy
that Ontario would bo almost beside
herself In the dollrium of her Joy and
would order out the First Regiment
band and General Roscnbaum's militia
to help her enthuse. Yes wo are some-
what elated and wo think wo have
good reason for It. Chandler will not
only havo a railroad of her own but
will bo tbo queen city of tho big East
Hide and don't you forgot it.
Tho Nowa is not serving tho causo of
Chandler by loading itself to the
whims and vagaries of ono Gristmill
Jonos. Guthrlo has the kindliest feel-
ings for Chandler and has not and will
not placo any obstacles In the town's
path to prosperity. If Chandler can
Bccuro tho Frisco road well and good
but Guthrlo should not bo misrepre-
sented and placed in a falso light as
regards tho proposed enterprise.
As to Colonel llrown tho comment
of tho Nowa Is grossly unjust. Mr.
llrown Is not a wild-cat railroad
schemer but a solid business man.
There Is a vast difteronce between
llrown and Jones Mr. ltrown has
built four railroads. Ho talks but
utile but his deeds count On tbo
other hand Jones has done nothing to
command tho confidence of tho public.
lie is a iour-ply triple-plated blatant
b'owhard who bummed around St.
Louis and mado life so unbearable to
Robmson and othor Frisco officials that
they mado tho trip to Oklahoma In
self defense. The JoncB road will
never bo built. Tho Red Fork-Guth
rlo road is a dead certainty. Fourteen
ra Ics of this extension have been com-
pleted and immediately after tho
action of congress touching a cbartor
tbo extension will bo pushed to early
completion. Ohandlor gains nothing
by acting ugly towards Guthrie
'lhe News should lay off a few days
and think seriously.
Tun visit of Hon. W. J. Iiryan to
Guthrlo promises to bo a red letter
event.
It begins to look as if we wero not
only going to annex Hawaii but would
havo an all-American telegraph cable
to Hawaii Japan and Australia a
Morgan syndlcato having undertaken
this extensive enterprise. At tbo
6amo time fifty American surveyors
are about to go to work driving stakes
along tho Nicaragua canal routo and
several thousand Americans sro crowd-
ing across tlq Hrltlsh line of tbo Klon
dike region of Alaska Now that
Americans have tasted the sweets of
foreign conquest and ouUIdo enter
prise there is no telling where thoy

NO LAND OPENINGS
Unttl Congress Acts There Will Ho No
Rushes.
Hundreds of people are arriving in
Oklahoma anticipating tho opening of
now lands to scttloinetit. Until con-
gress acts however no lands will bo
oponcd.
Secretary Hlisa says that whllo tho
opening of tho Wichita reservation in
Oklahoma to whlto settlement would
grcatlv promote tho development of
tho country yet In view of tho unset-
lied condition of tho questions affect-
ing their rights until thero Is further

bo done without causing groat injury
and distress. To guard against uls
recommendation Is roado that the
Dawes commission bo authorized to in
vestlgsto questions as to their rights
and claims and report recommenda-
tions for speedy and just settlement.
Referring to tho work of tho Dawes
commission It Is announced that tho
investigation of tho rights of appli
cants for citizenship in the flvo nations
has been practically completed; the
commission has beon preparing tho
rolls of citizenship of tho several tribes
and has negotiated throo agreements.
That with both tho Choctaw and

thoso tribes That made with tho
Creeks Scptombor 27 last was rcjectod
almost unanimously by the Crock
council and there is Ilttlo prospoais of
any futther agreement with thorn.
The Chorokees have rofinod to make

havo been abandoned for the time be-
ing. SAME OLD STORY.

nounced at the department of justice

Wabihnoton Nov. 29. Secrotary
Iillss has taken prompt action to avert
a possible invasion of tho Wichita
reservation in Oklahoma by whites
with tho idea of forcing upon congress
the opening of tho country to whlto
settlement Reports havo just reached
tho department that certain persons
aro declaring their intcntlun to organ
ize a large party in Kansas or else

havo boon wired to all tho agents and
inspectors in that section to make In-

upon to exercise great vigilance to
prevent any Buch invasion and in
