DoFord received the following tele-
gram this morning telling tho story
In a few words of one of tho most
hellish crimes that has over cursed the
annals of Oklahoma.
It told of the outraging and murder-
ing of ono of Oklahoma's moH estima-
ble ladies a wife mother and grand-
motherone who was known and re-
vered by all who knew hor as ono of
tho noblest and best women In tho
land.
The telegram was as follows:

Sheriff DoFord Oklahoma City:
Mrs. J. F. Mitchell was murdered
ud outraged hero lust night. Send
help to run down the murderers.

A brief recital of the facts as wired
to the Oklahoman from Choctaw City
Is as follows:
Choctaw City July 3q. Ono of tho
most dastardly aud llcudlsh crimes
uver committed in the territory was
perpetrated about four miles north of
tills place at 7 or 8 'o'clock last night
by parlies unknown. It was tho mur-
der and outrago of Mrs. J. F. Mitchell
u most estimable lady aged 45 years
Shu had been visiting at the residence
of her daughter Mrs. Stella llcebe
five miles no'theast of the town and
leil there at about 4 o'clock. troliiLr to
Mr. Win Winter's which place she left
about 8 o'clock. I hat is the last seen
of her alive.
Not returning to her home v. hen ex-

o'clock in a clump of bushes in n past

her face In the sand and wus dead
wheu found. Tho only marks on her
body was on the hack of the In ail as
though she had been struck with a

derer choking her. Her clothes were
very much torn and bloody. She had
been outraged.
As soon as the awful deed became
known posses of Infuriated itucns
began scourlntr the country for tho
murderer or murderers and this morn-
ing o negro was nrrested who was mal
lug for tho Klckapoo country. His
clothes were bloody and ho Is supposed
to bo the murderer and rapist. If
found that he Is tho right man he will
be lynched beforo ovcnlng.
Tho murdered lady was tho mother-in-law
of Postofilco Inspector llcebe.
Latkii Two negroes have been
arrested for the crime and it is re-
ported that ono has mado a partial
acknowledgement. It Is believed that
several wore Implicated in the fiendish
deed.
