Livadia Nov. 5. Princess AUx was
received iuto tho orthodox church on
Friday. Tho ceremony took place In
the chapel of tho imporlal palace.
She received the tltlo of grand
duchess in Uiissia Illngovoriiaja Vol-
lUaj.i Kna-jlna. After the ceremony
of confession uho received tho ortho-
dox sacrament. The ritual observed
required no denunciation of her for-
mer faith. Tho priest asked tho
princess to express lior belief in tho
Trinity end then to repeat the dog-
mas of tho orthodox faith. Sho did
fn and was then led by u priost Into
the church and up to a tablo on which
were vessels containing consecrated
oil. In tho meunllmo a choir
was singing psalms. ' The princess
l.nelt beforo tho table. After tho of-
fering of prayers and singing of
hymns tho priest said: "Arise :ny
beloved; arise in tho fear of God."
The princess stood up and bald: "I
vow to remain steadfast in tho ortho-
dox Catholic church to my 'Inst breath.
1 miw that I acknowledge this; faith
and rejoice in obeying its laws. As a
sign of this sincere von which comes
from my heart I kiss the cross of tho
Havior. Amen."
Then she knelt and tho priest gave
absolution.
After numorous hymns and prayers
in which all tho members of the czar's
family were named tho priest an-
nointed tho princes with consecrated
oil on the temples eyes noso lips
earn hands and foot. Afterward lie
touched these narts witli a sponge
dipped in holy water.
IIo then proclaimed tho princess'
lawful conversion to the Kussian or-
thodox church and exhorted those
present to pray for her.
