tho Sioux City Athletic club to bring;
oiT a fight botween Corbett ami Jack-
son ended yesterday in complete fall-
ure.Jncltson absolutely refuslntr to nut
His tiatiio to the articles of agreement
as signed by Corbett.
Edward Lloyd renrcsontlnir the
jloux Citv club met Jackson and hi !
.anagcr "Parson" Davies at the
iffgs liouso at noon in the presence
' n good sized crowd of sporting men
tilid novvspapor reporters. Lloyd pro
duced the papers which Corbett had
signed in Now York. Jackson glanced
over them and at onco said they
would not do. "I will fight for your
purse nnd n sido bet of 310000" ho
said "but tho light will have to cotno
off within three month."
That's the idea exactly" said Mr.
Davies. ".Mr. Corbett is on the stago
now and wo don't intend to adver-
tibo him until noxt Way or June.
This ngrecment calls for tho light to
take place botween May 15 and June
ir. Now you people nnmo your
place and uinko the time within tho
next thrco months and Jackson will
sign "
This Eloyd said ho could not do
and Davies proceeded to pick llaws
in tho papers. Ho said that thero
was a good dcnl that did not look
honest; that no place was named;
thnt thero was no specifications as to
whether the men would tight ten
rounds or teu years or to a finish and
that tho whole matter had a
"peculiar" look.
Jackson chimed in with nn objection
to fighting "any place." "I want to
fl;rht before a club and in a house"
ho said. "1 don't want tho affair to
take place in n field or in a tent."
Eloyd becamo considerably excited
over the fun that Davis poked at tho
papers but kept his temper and tried
hard to obtain tho necessary signa-
nature. Ho declared positively how-
ever that lie could not bring off tho
light in tho time specified by Jackson.
"Wo have got to hiivo good weather
to get a crowd" ho said. "I want to
boo this thing go through but thero is
no ubo talking of bringing it off in
three months."
"It's thrco months or nothing" de-
clared Davies. and Jackson added
"That's right."
"Well it's off" said Davies as ho
picked up his hat "I didn't llko the
looks of this thing anyway."
Jackson followed and tho pair left
the hotel. It was announced later
that Jackson would leave for New
York to-night and immediately sail
for tho West Indies and thence to Eon-
don. "It is an impossibility to get a
flirlit with Corbett" lie said. "I could
not afford to lie around doing noth-
ing all winter whilo Corbett was on
tho stngo making money out of the ad-
vertisement this fight would give
him. Tho thing is clear off now. I
will try London for awhile."
