The c!o-in of the shops should
oocasioi no great discoui-getnt-nt
in Chickasha. The town L- de-
pendant ujoti no one industry fur
its prosperity. Wkh the big torn
and cotton croj. in bight there
will be plenty doing in Chickasha.
The tide of immigrants which is
confidently extorted from all parts
of the country during the next few
montns will do much to liven up
business in this country. Many of
the immigrants will find homes
here and tho.-c who do not will
leave a considerable amount of
spare change.
A display of farm products dur-
ing our carnival week September
19-24 will do much to make the
occasion jxipular with the fanners.
A premium lists hould 1.- prepared
and published as soon as possible.
Thee xpense will Ik- veiy small com-
pared with the benefits to be de-
rived. Such an exhibit will give
encouragement to producers and
bring them to Chickasha.
Anadarko did herself proud in
the celebration of her third anni-
versary Saturday. The ieopIe of
Caddo county showed their loyalty
to their county seat by turning out
in great numbers. One c f the most
interesting features of the occasion
was the exhibit of Caddo county
farm products. These were truly
wonderful a splendid testimonia
to the fertility of Oklahoma soil.

the maintenance of its mission
among men i worth more than a
nitre temporary lu.-s of business.
During presidential campaigns
tht- country resolves itself into a
school of jxditics. There are de-
bating societies on every street.
The jitople are studying civics and
tecnomics. The science and the
art of popular government are
themes of every day conversation.
The jtople are getting information
aWnit their governmental affairs.
It may be urged that partyisiu
rather than patriotism is fostered
by the heated campaigns. JJut
after making full allowance for
party spirit and partisan prejudice-
it is easily seen there remains a
pride of the citizen in his republic
and a loyalty to its institutions.
In a government of the peop'c
there must 1e seasons of education.

That .separate statehood move-
ment .seems to be confined princi-
pally to the columns of a few rabid
d juble state organs. The -icople
of the two territories have almost
unanimously agreed that single
statehood offers the only sjieedy re-
lief from present conditions and are
not wining to pm any oostac.e in
the way of it. That big string of
separate fctate clubs seems to be
largely mythical.
A visitor in Chickasha expressed
surprise at the interest taken in na-
tional jolitics by the jicople here.
There is no occasion for wonder.
While the people of the territory
have o voice in the election they
have great interests at stake. They
are as deeply affected by the gener-

special interests of their own of
