ADVERTISE THE COLLEGE.
Several times during: the past few
year the Express has called atten-
tion to the necessity for som effective
advertising; for the Women's College
and we think now Is an opportune
time to renew the suggestion.
The legislature makes no appropria-
tion for advertising any of the state
schools and therefore ' the matter of
publicity for the college is one that
must he handled by the citizens of
Chickasha. There are a number of
excellent reasons why it. would pay us
to expend a reasonable amount of
money in this manner.
As the home of this splendid slate
Institution Chickasha naturally 'a In-
terested in seeing it grow as rapidly
ns possible. It is an admitted fact that
outside of our O'vn section of the state
the people of Oklahoma as a whole
know little about the college and what
hey do know is fragmentary and often
misleading. The idea is still widely
prevalent that the college Is an insti-
tution for incorrigible girls.
Advertising is needed to correct
false impressions nd to place the in-
stitution before the people in its true
light. We cannot expect the enroll-
ment in the school to grow as it should
until it is generally known that the
state maintains here a real college of
high rank where girls may enjoy all
the educational advantages that are
offered in the women's colleges in the
older states.
From a business point of view there
is every reason why we should desire
the college to have the largest enroll-
ment possible and there are also other
potent reasons for advertising the
school at this time it is well known
thai the existence of the college and
other state institiu.Vas has been men-
aced by legislators as well as initia-
tors for two years and the sentiment
for abolishing some of w)c state schools
is still strong. It is not at all outside
of the range of possibility that we
shall yet have to make a fight before
the people for the maintenance of the
college and we ought to be prepared
for it. There is no doubt that the
people of the state would vote to main-
tain the institution if they knew its
true character ar-'l it is to our interest
to gee that they are properly in-
lonned. Another thing the amount appropri-
ated for the school by future legisla-
tures will depend largely upon the
showing made by the college. If the
school has the largest 'Possible enroll-
ment drawing students from all parts
of the state it will soon be recogniz-
ed that it is serving a useful purpose
mid is deserving of liberal support by
the state.
We know of no way In which the
people of Chickasha could better af-
ford to spend a reasonable amount of
money at. the present time than in
advertising the Women's College.
THE WEED NUISANCE.
That Solomon had lots of w isdom in
his ijpad is generally admitted but in
his '.numeration of the great evils un-
der the sum he overlooked one good
bet. lie didn't say a word about the
weed nuisance which Is prevalent in
Chickasha and other cities.
ICven in metropolitan Kansas City
the city officials have found It neces-
sary to conduct a vigorous anti-weed
campaign and practically every news-
paper contains the ringing "hattlecry
"Cut the Weeds"
On account or the remarkable fer-
tility of our soil in conjunction with
our heavy rainfall weeds thrive won-
derfully in Chickasha. We don't like
to be boastful but honestly we be-
lieve Chickasha Iihb some of the tall-
est weeds in the state. On vacant lots
in backyards and alleys and In many
places along the sidewalks they have
assumed real forest-like proportions.
However we have never heard any
citizen say he was proud of the weed
patches in his yard and we have never
heard any one say that the weeds that
nearly cover up tho sidewalks are or.
nmnental or servo any useful purpose.
Indeed everybody except those who
harbor weeds say they ought not to be
tolerated it should not he necessary
for the city to be driven Into compell-
ing citizens to cut the weeds; as the
mayor suggests simple civic pride
should be sufficient to prompt citizens
to do their duty.
Let's redeem Chickasha from the
weed nuisance and do it now get busy
with the scythe and do It today.

AT LAST.
It seems too good to be true the
news that I'ncle Sam is actually call-
ing for bids on the. building of his
home In Chickasha.
For three years or more we have
looked forward to this glad day and
always it has been "not now but
soon." But row the long and weary
days and months of deferred hopes are
over and we rejoice with exceeding
great joy to see the fruition of our
deepest longings looming up just
ahead of us.
In .March 1H1." mark the date our
handsome public building will be com-
pleted; Of course the builders will
have to hustle to finish the pob in that
brief space of time but perhaps It can
be done. Anyway we hope so and will
keep on hoping.

Swat the Fly.
Realizing that the heavy job ot
grinding out a "pome" every day is
causing the Paekagette poet to suffer
from brain fague a friend came to
the rescue today contributing this
one:
Some tell you when you swat one fly
A thousand come for every one you
swat:
nut this I tell you If you only try
And strike to kill the one you swat
is not.
Remember too that when you swat
one fly
A million germs are surely dead;
A thousand million unborn flies then
die
Which living would pollute your
daily bread
For flics are filthy things and love to
play
Among the things you eat throughout
the day
Then aw; and swat swat and swat
And swat again why not?
