E. Marts: and wife of Rockford
Ohio are visiting on the Missouri

Al Dickson who returned last week
from a trip to Guthrie in speaking of
affairs at tho Capital reported every-
thing pushing. Al is a Democrat so of
course reported the Convention tip-top.
He said ho only saw two Republicans
while in Guthrie and one of them was
a "niggar." We suggested that he
probably fell in with tlie wrong bunch
and didn't associate with the class
where Republicans arc always found
He silently kept still and said nothing
thus agreeing with us for silence giveb
consent. At any rate he didn't deny
the allegation and defy Mu alligator.
J. W. M.cCool was up from Riverside
the latter part of the week and paid
this office an extended call. Mr.
McCool is one of those staunch loyal
Republicans With whom it is a pleasure
to talk. In talking over the political
situation for the coming new state he
expressed the opinion that success is
"certain for the Grand Old Party if
thoy will follow the plan they have
mapped out and everyono work for the
beet interests of that party and for-
get selfish ends. Mr. McCool has
been a resident of the county for a
number of years and has always been
heard from when there was a political
campaign on hand.
Miss Ella Baker superintendent of
schools of Heaver county stopped off

to be going to lose some of her best
citizens Hooker Advance.
'Tis true a few of our best people
are going to cast their lot with Texas

ness interests there in most instances-
What under the sun else could anyone
ever be persuaded to leave old Beaver
for. Thero's no place like home. We
are proud that our county was honored
by being allowed to rotain the namo
"Beaver."

Former Resident Dead.
It becomes our sad duty again this
week to chronicle the visitation of ll(o
Death Angel in tho home of J. W.
llornbaker a former resident of Beaver
county but now of Newton Kansas by
which that home was robbed of a loving
wife and fond mother. Tho deceased
was a sister of Mrs. Charlie McCune.
Mrs. MeCune has many friends and
neighbors who will join us in sympathy
for her in her grief. Mrs. McCune had
just recently returned from a visit to
her sister and had hopes lor her recov-
ery Tho Newton Kansan-Ropubliean
contnins the following in regard to the
death and funeral:
Mrs Gertrude George-IlorubaVur
Wife of Mr. Will llornbaker died at
the family home yesterday (January 27
1007) morning at 7:30. She leaves a
husband and three small children to
mourn her. Mrs. llornbaker was 36
years old. She has been ill for a long
time and death had not been unex-
pected for more than a'Woek. Tho fu-
neral services will bo hold in the
Christian church Tucsdny aftornoon at
2:30 and will be conducted by Rev. O.
A. Finch of Topcka who will bo as-
sisted by tlio pastor Rev. McGill. In-
terment will bo made in tho Newton
cemetery.
The Christian church was crowded to
tho utmost yesterday afternoon with
tho relatives and many friends who
came to pay their last tribute of rc-
Bjiect to Mrs. Gertrude llornbaker
Tho funeral services were conducted
by Rev. Finch of Topekn a personal
friend of the family and ho was as-
sisted by Rev. McGill pastor of the
church. Rev. Finch preached a buau-
tiful sermon and paid a high tribute tu
Mrs. Hornbaker the good lifo she had
always lived a loving wife devoted
mother and true friend. The reniainB
wore laid to rest in tho Nowton ceiuo-
tory. An Atrocious Crime.
Word comes from Guymon of tho
committal of one of the most inhuman
crimes that has ever been brought
home to the people of Beaver county
Last week Frank Nattiford was charged
with assault and battery on his little
thfee-year-old son. The little child
wai found out in the back yard near
his homo the next morning almost
frozen and with his eyes swollen and
black. Tho mother of tho child died
last August and since that time two oi
her children were sent to a Kansas or-
phans homo on account of Nattiford's
inhuman treatment. In writing of the
alTair in the Guymon Herald Dick
Quinn recommends that the brutal fa-
ther be tied to a telephone polo and
whipped with a wet ropo" till ho broke
loose. Yes or tied over an ant bed
and stung to death by red ants.
