to allow my name to bo used beforo the

the nomination of a candidato for repre-

No "crown of thorns?" What's the
matter with Tom Watson's Kansas
eptccbes?
Jim Williamson will rcccivo the larg-
est number of votes cast for any candi-
date id Beaver county this full and
Dennis Flynn tho next largest.
Uncle Sam's young peoplo invested
370000000 tho past year in bieyeles
and 820000000 in chewing gum. No
wonder times are a little hard.
Tho democrats ' of Beaver county
showed their go'od sense by indorsing
Jim Williamson. The democrats of the
Territory should have done likewise by
indorsing Dennis Flynn.

"Can't Jell anything about tho case
yet" said the lawyer "tho jury is hung."
"Jerusalem!" exclaimed tho prisoner
"that does beat all. Rut I knowed my
friends 'ud lynch 'cm if they got a
chance at 'cm."
Lunacy is considered a crimo puns
fcbablo with death in somo parts of Ok
lahotua. Down at Cliflon l&st week a
constablo arrested John Norman a crazy
man. Norman attempted to cscapo and
the constable shot him in the hip ser-
iously wounding him.
In 1872 the Liberal Republicans and
the Democrats mado a noisy campaign
just .as. flBmniUs arodoing now.
"Grbcliiy)pund tWeirclo just-ns
Bryan is doing now but when the votes
were counted Grant had tho largest
majority ever given a candidate Dodge
Globe-Republican.
Dennis Flynn is traveling around over
th part of Oklahoma that has no raiN
roads. Ho travels fifty to one hundred
miles and makes an average of two
speeches each day. He gets out among
tho people and tho commonest laborer is
treated the same as a banker. Flynn is
a favorite among the members of all
parties and ceiues nearer being tho cans
didato of all the pcoplo than any other
man in tho country.
Cleveland will not bo justified in stay
ing away from tho polls this year because
there are not enough candidates and
platforms. He can take his bivalves
raw on tho half shell fried broiled or
stewed He can bolt ivith Bryan and
Scwall he can pop with Bryan and
Watsun he can fight with Palmer and
Buckncr or he can undo much of his
misohicf by voting for MolCinley and
llobart. -Inter-Ocean.
Livo Stock Champion: A man who
has tried it says that 400 dchoroed
steers can bo comfortably fed with tho
same amount of trough room thai would
bo acquired for 150 horned cattle and
that dehorned cattle being entirely free
from thp fear and excitement of being
consfantly bronght into contact with
vicious -'horned anituals-on every side
naturally feed better fatten and grow
faster chip better and consequently
bring much more money than hotned
cattle.
Dennis Flynn is demonstrating his
indomitablo pluck aud tireless energy in
his present trip He set out ten days
ago en a tour of 1000 miles. The tour
was to be mado in fifteen days and be
was scheduled to niako over thirty
speeches. Tho dispatches state that he
was obliged to lay out ono night without
blankets owing to tho missing of the
road but that he reached tho appointed
place on schedule time having mado a
100 milo trip and slept on tho ground
without blankets in order to make it.
Who will daro to say that a man with
enough pluck and determination to do
that is not a useful member of congress?
'Times-Joumal.
Out on tho Mexican frontier and down
in New Mexico a few big concerns still
exist to show pcoplo what used to be the
common thing when tho cattle barou was
in his glory. Tho Wagoner ranch tho
biggest cattle center in Texas has some-
thing like 75000 head scattered wher-
ever good ranges can bo found. Tho
home ranch accommodates about 20000.
Tho Matador and prairie companies the
only ones of the big foreign cattle com-
panies rcmainiug own about 100000
head between them. Tho old times saw
doens of as important concerns but they
nro gone. The west will never see such
times again. Tho conditions are changed
and nowhero except on tho highlands of
Mexico is there any chanco for handling
big herds of cattle. Denver Field and
Farm.
Tho national encampment of tho
Grand Army of tbe Republic began its
annual session at St. Paul on Monday
and while the uumber of veterans in
attendance was less the witnessing
audienco was seemingly as great as ever.
Tho ranks of the survivcr of the great
war grow smaller in tho course of nature
and it is expected that Wednesday's
parade will show considerable gaps in
the line. Tho parade itself grows year
by year a more interesting and indeed
affecting spectacle. As there ro fewer
left to tell the story tbe moro wondrous
the tale becomes. What havo been
called tho "pabiions" of tho war are
dyiog out in fact they commenced to
die the day (be last shot was fired.
There baa been no diminution of interest
in the war as an historical er.i and erent.

s Noah Daves the republican candidate
for county superintendent is ma' well
qualified for the position to which ho
aspires as any person in tho county; but
liu is handicapped by tho fact that his
opponent is a 7oman. This should cut
no figure however with any intelligent
voter. It is truo that their sense of
gallantry and feeling of deference toward
a lady will impel many Beaver county
voters to support tho democratic candi
date It is perfectly right and honorable
to accord all respect to a lady but in
politics slio should not be given the
preference on that ground. Miss Mc-
Quillan is a perfect lady in every
respect and is so far as we know com-
petent to perform the duties of tho office.
Noah Daves however is not only ono of
the best educated but is also ono of tho
best posted men in tho county both in
school work and in tho progress of tho
couutry. Ho has mado education his
lifo work and allows nothing clso to
interfere with his chosen vocation. He
holds a first giado certificate grunted in
Topoka Kansas has studied in three
differeut high schools or colleges and
holds certificates of Manding for each
branch ho has taken up. He has been
weighed in the balance and in no iustance
has ho been found wanting. Ho has
been teaching about six years and there
has been no time in that period when
his skrviccs were not in demand.
Tho personal character of each of tho
candidates for this office is simply above
reproach; morally wo consider them
equal; and both havo professed religion
Mr. Daves being a member of the
Presbyterian church at this place and
Miss McQuillan a member of the
Catholic church and they stand equally
high in tho estimation of their friends.
There are many who hold that the
office of superintendent is not properly a
woman's office for tho reason that in
order to perform tho duties of the office
properly a great amount of travel is
necessary especially in a county of this
sizo and thii traveling must always be
dene in the stormy period of tho year.
Daves if he is elected will see to it
personally that each school in the county
is properly looked after; and being a
clear-headed practical man the educa-
tional interests of the county cannot but
bo advanced. Noah has a few enamica
in the county but if tbe matter is sifted
it will generally be found that they are
persons who arc jealous of bis many
successes in his lino of work and certain
stories that havo been circulated reflect-
ing upon his capability are groundless.
Wo stand ready and willing to prove any
statement wo have made in this article
or for that matter anything we have
said or shall say in regard to any of the
candidates. Atl Mr. Daves asks is a
fair consideration in the campaign aud
at tho polls in November
Court Proccetfluj-s.
Below we give a condensed report of
the proceedings of .tho District Court

clusive: Deputy District Clerk Weir
