The Purceli Register has al-
ways vaunted its boldness in ex-
pousing one side or the other of
all public questions but it is a
. noticable fact that in the present
campaign for national committee-
man it has no candidate. It is
content to dear in platitudes and
homilies on the regretable fact
that personalities have been in-
jected into the canvass. It doesn't
even take the trouble to inform
the public which of the candidates
was gnilty of the first breach of
good form in this particular.
What's the matter Brother Walk-
er! The visit of Queeu Victoria to
Ireland was intended to breed in
the Irish breast a feeling of res-
pect and veneration for the en-
slaving royalty of England. Al-
most before the echoes of Ireland's
farewell had ceased Salisbury had
made a speech in which he de-
nounced as a thoughtless vagary
the great fight which the
immortal Gladstone made for
home rule for the oppressed island.
He stated that the people there
must be kept unarmed and at the
mercy of the dominant power.

Did Howard Kill Goebel V
Frankfort Ky. May 12 Should
Jim Howard on examining trial make
a motion for bail as bis friends say
he will on May 22. proof is expected
to be brought out to show that How-
ard fired the shot that killed Ooebel.
Since Howard was arrested it has
developed that the evidence against
him as the real assassin is not put
too strong when Attorney Campbell
says: "We expect to prove that
Howard is the man who fired the
shot."
The prosecution is guarding the
nature of the evidenco but they are
said to have secured a positive clue
from good authority giving details of
the alleged plot. The attorney for
Youtsey has again been in conference
with the state's attorneys and it is
rumored that Youtsey has made an
other effort for Immunity. These
conferences lead to the belief that
Youtsey is determined to confess
and since it is charged that be fur
nisbed the bullets and guu and paid
the assassin his statement will be
startling.
