BIXBY, TULSA COUNTY, OKLAHOMA, FRIDAY, MAY% 1915
NO. 10
Brave Men.
By P. P. Duffy.
Brave is .the until who grasps the sword
To fljrht for freedom's cause;
Who risks Iris life for native land.
Her honor, nud her laws.
Who in the mouth of foreign trims.
Triumphant, takes the field;
Whose battle-cry has ever been
“I’d rather die than yield.”
Observed Her Birthday.
Brave is the man that mans the ship
When ocean billows roar;
Who steers his bark through foff and arale
And ‘ capes the vramsy shore:
Who, ev in. raorUfaRes Ids life
That .of her^ouls may save;
Whose only recompense lias been,
Too oft, a watery grave.
Brave is the man that guides tlie train
i hai pounds along the rail.
Full many lives within his grasp.
The span of life seems frail;
Whose eagle eye t he landscape scans
For dangers on ahead
N« kiioi's to fail at duty’s post
May l.‘4tvc :» wake of d< ad.
Brave is the man who shuns tin ones
That slander woman’s name;
Whose manly face was never known
To wear the blush of shame;
Whose honor guides his every act.
Who never knows to fear.
Who aids the aged In distress
And brings the poor good cheer.
Brave is the man whoever spurns
The red and tempting glass;
Anil when the wine is passed around
Can boldly let it pass;
Who is no slave to alcohol,
But strong drink doth despise
That man deserves a hero’s badge,
The man is truly wise.
Brnve.are these men, thus circumscribed
Men with grit- and nerve -
Then let us shower, with gracious power.
The laurels they deserve.
We find them in our walks of life,
In modest mien and grace,
And tho’ unknown to wealth or fame.
Inch fills a hero’s place.
Dally Oklahoman.
On last Monday evening at the
home of W. R. Pinion, was ob
served the sixty-third annivers-
ary of the birth of Mrs. Mattie
Prowse, motiiei of Mrs. Pinion
and Mr. W. E. Prowse.
The families of both children
were present and a very pleas-
ant evening was spent together
in honor of the event.
Mrs. Prowse is a native of
Tennessee, but has been in Tulsa
county for a little over a year,
and in Bixby since last Novem-
ber, when her‘son came here as
manager for the Lowland Oil
and Gas Co.
May she and her loved ones
enjoy many more such pleasant
occasions is the best wish of The
Bulletin.

Possibly you now have money
in this bank. Very good. If not,
you should begin right away to
lay aside small sums. Should
sickness or adversity overtake
you, you will need the money.
One of the important objects of £
this bank is to safely care for £
small savings, as well as larger
accounts all of which are protect-
ed by the State Guarantee Fund.

Rev. Byers “Pounded.”
Rev. Byers, pastor of the M.
E. Church, South, came up last
Saturday as usual and filled his
regular appointments here Sun-
dry. The district conference
convened at Stroud on Tuesday,
so he remained over Monday
night and went from here Tues
day to attend the conference.
Monday night, his friends to
the number of nearly eighty,
went to the home of Bro. Dun-
lap, where Rev. Byers was stop-
ping, and proceeded, calmly,
purposely and successfully to
“pound” the Reverend with dry
goods, groceries, canned goods
and cash to the extent of about
$25.
We regret that other duties
held us elsewhere, but to pre-
pare him for just such events

The Old and the New.
The Mayor and Council met in
regular session, Monday even-
ing. After the old Council had at
tended to several minor matters,
such as approving the reports
of Marshal Pinion and Judge
Thrasher, it adjourned.
The new city officials, consist
ing of Clerk Rowe Gay, Marshal
Pinion, Police Judge A. Haga-
man, and Councilmen J. B. Hall
and J. D. Fulbright, were in
ducted into office. The oath of
office was administered by
Judge Harry W. Worsham.
Robert Inglish, the retiring
mayor, then turned the chair
over to Mayor J. D. Fulbright,
and the new “city dads” began
their labors.
Owing to the fact that Charles
M. Sherrill, councilman elect,
from the second ward was out
of town, he will not qualify until
the next meeting of the Council.
The board adjourned to meet
in regular session, May 17.

Look Out for Pellagra.
That little known and much
dreaded disease of mankiad,
known as Pellagra, seems to be
getting a good foothold in cer-

According to a recent issue of
a Tulsa paper, there was recent-

now the Sapulpa Herald says
there are several cases in Sap-

Our Booster Number will be a
treasure worth preserving as
it will have more than 20
pictures made from actual pho-
tographs, and you will want to
keep it for future reference-
It will also be a nice gift to
send to your friends back in the
old home state, to show them
what we have herein this new
country.
In either event, you’d better
leave your order soon, as the
number is limited and the rule
will be “First come, first
