Republican Meeting
brated all over our country, and his
memory blessed. But (leorge Is dead.
bast Saturday was the twentieth
anniversary of a live one, which also
was entitled to some celebration on
tho part of the Clare more business
world. Twenty years before, the
charter or the First National Bank,
tho oldest bbnnk in our city, was
granted and It opened its doors to
do a general hanking business, and
has been at the same busings with
on© move of a block In location, <lur*
Ing the twenty years. The hank was
opened In the new brick building built
especially for It, now the Palace
Hotel across the street from the
Frisco. The other business house's
were facing west toward the railroad,
and the present Main street was very
and muddy, with two ditches
crossing It, one which was jumped an
the other one bridged.
Mr. C. F. (iodbey, the present cash-
ier. came to open the bank and take
charge. The principal stockholders
and organizers were Messrs, liaised.
Hall, Bagby, Fortner and Dlrickson.
The latter lias also stayed with the
hank through the years. While there
are a number of men In Claremore
now who were In business at that
time, there are none in the same
business they were then.
During the twenty years of the
I.ank s existence, there has never been
a run on this bank. It has stormed
the panics and tho slim crop years,
and has always come up smiling. This
gives it a right to wear Its title of
the ‘Old Reliable." Mr. (Iodbey as
cashier continuously for twenty years
has the record in this state for ser-
vlet*. Air. Patton, assistant cashier,
has been with the bank for seven
years and Mr. Wimberly, bookkeep-
er. for t wo years.
The first depositors of the bank
wore: (\ V. Rogers, Comer & Evans,
Joe Lallay, Claremore Drug Co. .1. M.
Boling and J. K. McClellan.
The Comptroller of the Currency
wired last Saturday at five o'clock
that the bank's charter had been ex-
tended for another twenty years, so
they are now operating under the
new charter. The extended charter
is published in tills paper as required
by law
senger cannot confirm or deny tho
report. The decision If made, has
not appeared in the Oklahoma papers,
nor has nny of tho parties to the
suit In Claremore had any notice to
that effect. J. j. Howard, attorney
for the protesting parties who secured
the injunction, when seen Wednes-
day afternoon said he had received no
word of any decision, but stated that
tho case was not settled by a inero
decision overruling tho Injunction, as
his firm had filed an amended peti-
tion in the district court some time
Ago, and that If the supreme court
reversed Judge Brown thero would
ho a case pending before Judge Camp
bell.
The new Board of Commissioners
hava gone on record as being unani-
mously opposed to tho drainage ditch
and will fight tho case. If Rogers
County gets a drainage district at
♦600.000. It will be because Messrs.
Rroadwell and Dickey, two rank out-
siders, have unloaded something on
the taxpayers they do not want and
they will have to force It through
with the aid of decisions and !aw.

NOW IS THE TIME TO SWAT THB
FLY.
I nclo Sam is waging a relentless
war on the deadly housefly and ta
a late bulletin prepared by the De-
partment of Agriculture, valuable In-
formation is given on the best means
of combating this deadly pest. The
most effective way of exterminating
ilie fly, according to the bulletin, la
to eradicate his breeding places, Tho
breeding season of tho fly begins
early in March and continues through
out tlie spring and summer months.
All dirt should be removed from the
premises,, stables cleaned and de-
caying vegetables destroyed.
The fly lias rightly been called the
undertakers traveling salesman. And
in addition to his regular line of
typhoid bugs ’, ho carries a side
line of tuberculosis,, Asiatic Cholera
and other diseaso germs. Now la
tho time to "swat the fly."
DAVIS GANG FOUND GUILTY
Tho Jack Davis gang which robbed
a Katy train n 1912 and secured $7,-
500 In money, have been found guilty
in the federal court at Muskogee of
conspiracy to obstruct the United
States mails. They were tried In tho
state court on a straight robbery
charge and found not guilty. Jack
Davis, the leader, is tho head of
tho Davis faction in the Porum feud
of a few years ago, which resulted la
number of killings. He has been
tried for numerous crimes, but never
before convicted. He says he la not
guilty and that they cannot make tho
verdict stick. When a man la tried
In n federal court it sticks better
than state courts, we notice, and Is
not nearly so easy to get a reversal.
