he had only a few hours to live,
but Mrs. Upton arrived ou the

Acting ou the petition of over
1,100 reiideut taxpayer" of Jack-
sou county, Oklahoma, Governor
Haskell hai called au electiou for
July 18, lWft. to decide the per-
manent location of the couuty
seat. The petiti^us urged that
tbe eleotiou be called at the larli*
eat posaible moment.
Jacksou is not tbe ouly county
which it seeking to decide thia
mooted question. Quite a uumber
of tbe new countiee, formed by
the eoustitutioual convention
when Oklahoma wee made a etate,
will vote ou th« matter thi« aum-
mar. Jackson'a election, however,
is tbe lest one to be held. >
This election is so hedged abo*t
and safe guarded that fraud is
uext to impoeeihle. Each voter
is required to make affidavit that
he is 1« gaily qualified to partici-
pate, all affidavits being placed
iu a separate bo*. Should any
ceuteet ariee over the reeultof the
election, the affidavits are availa-
ble to decide the righte of the
voter.

Constitution of Oklahoma, to be

removing or relocating the County

Oklahoma, by virtue of the au-
thority vested in me by the laws
of said State of Oklahoma, do
hereby call an electiou to be held
in said County of Jackson for \h*

question of changing, removing
or relocating the County Seat of
said Couuty, said electiou to lie
beldon the 18 day of July, 1008,
and to be held under the provis-
ions of the electiou laws of the
State of Oklahoma ; that notice
of such electiou to be giveu by
the publication of this proclama-
tion in uewspapers published at
Altus, Onistee, Eldorado, Head-
rick Elmer aud Blair, if any
such paper shall fail or refuse to
publish the same, then by posting
in such town or place for the
period of at least six consecutive
weeks next preceeding the date of
such electioi. as herein ordered.
The County Officials of said
Couuty are hereby ordered to pre-
pare for the holding of such elec-
tion uuder the geueral laws of
the Stat* of Oklahoma governing
general electious.
