statesmen who dwell within the blaring shade of the dim, distant and misty cou
house which is being erected (out of the fog) on the apex of the pinnacle of the
eminence of the loftiest sand hill in Greer county's great Sahara, the Mangum
public square.
Yes, he fell -busted" and badly bent but he rose again, brushed the coagu-
lated, bloody, red mud of the battlefield from between his shoulder blades and
extended to his vanquisher the right hand of fealty and loyalty and thus proves
his Democracy.
When two months ago the war clouds gathered and some 40 brave Democratic
knights sprang into the arena to contest for supremacy the Enterprise with the
eye of a connisseur chose from among them certain of them whom we should like
to "see win, at the same time making a mental memorandum "a fine lot; the
affairs of the county and the destinies of Democracy are safe in the hands of any
one of them," and now with our vanquished leader we pledge our fealty to one
and all of them who won the title "standard bearer."

When in the course of human events it becomes evident to any man or
1 community that he or they are "getting it in the neck" it becomes their sacred
but painful duty to turn also the other cheek that the smiter may slug that
awhile. So sa?th the good book. But, the whiskers on this particular injunction
are so long that those on Father Time look like a two weeks growth by com-
panion and the up-to-date procedure of the priw ring under similar circum-
stances would be, duck and counter on the solar plerus.
It must certainly be evident to every thinking man that the big novelty firm
in Mangum who make a specialty of manufacturing county political slates are
not disposed to give to any one outride the corporate limit* of that particular
village any office of any more importance than justice of the peace.
Furthermore that our site and wealth warrant, and the convenience of our
cititens demand that Greer be cut into two and perhaps three counties. There-
fore be it placed in black and white that the Enterprise is henceforth and
forever for county division, and short division at that. One of the planks in our
platform i»: "We favor a ine drawn north and south through the center of
Mangum and another drawn east and west through the center of the same village.
We also favor a county seat at Erick or Bloomington, another at Leger and a
third at or about Greer.
