It is said that facts are stranger than
fiction. Be this as it may, the follow-
ing facts read like fiction.

ley, Ark., July 25, 1904, by Rev. Jas.
F. Jernigan, Mr. Robert Earnest Little
of Steele, Ala., and Mrs. Nannie Birlie
Dean of Shoffner, Ark.
Fifteen years ago of lights and shad-
ows lay between their first love and
the 15th inst. Before either were mar-
ried they were young and ardent lovers
but the iron hand of fate ruled that
they should not wed. So the young
Miss Nannie was wedded to another.
Dr. A. Jones, who lived but a few
years and died; she was then wooed
'and wedded by Mr. Will Dean, who
lived but a few years and died last
October, when the first marriage was
made known to the Alabama suiter he
ef course withdrew from the scene.
He sought, found, wooed, won and
wedded in his own state, but it

the light of love never went completely
out and on last October he lost his wife
by death and herein lies the story of
the young love bursting into a flame
once more. So risking the case he sent
a memorial card to his long loved Nan-
nie, who, strange to say, received it
the day she laid her second husband
away in the lap of earth. The reader
can draw on the imagination for thought
as to the emotion that stirred her soul
and heart at the reception of such un-
expected information. In due time she
recognized the card by a letter of sym-
pathy which rolled the curtain back
and off these fifteen years of life and
death and sorrow. Here they are free
once more but what changes since they
were affectionate young lovers fifteen
years ago. Again we will leave the
reader to muse on the impulse that
stirred an Alabama lover till Alabama
could not hold him any longer. A cor-
respondence began and the old hard
shell doctrine of a little spark that nev-
er fully goes out kindled into a flame
ef unfeighned love and Mr. Little ap-
peared at Weldon on the 28th of June
a prospector looking for a location.
Here he found his provedontial valet
Sam. Sam is a colored man who knew
Mr. Little in Alabama and it was in
Sam's hands to play his part of this
real romance. Mr. Little stopped at
the Wise hotel and his faithful Sam
would come around a little after sun-
down and a little before dark nnd in a
closed buggy Mr. Little, tha location
hunter, would hie himself to Shoffner
one mile away to see his loving devoted
gentle Nannie. A few visits soon dis-
closed the fact that to consumate this
PETITION HELD DEFECTIVE.
The petition circulated by W. R.
Spears asking that the county commis-
sioners court to order a bond election
in the sum of $100,000 for the purpose
of building a courthouse and jail for
Jackson county, was held defective by
the commissioners court last Friday.
The petition had enough signers and
seemed to meet the requirements of
the statutary law, but was thought de-
fective in certain constitutional re-
quirements, and the court did not fee
that it would be right to order an elec-
tion, which would cost near $2,000,
when there were any likelihood of the
bonds being illegal, by reason of a de-
fective petition.
The court was not averse to ordering
an election, but want to be right when
they do act.
Members of the court informed us
that a tax of one mill, upon the pres-
ent valuation would be sufficient to
meet the annual interest and sinking
fund of a $100,000 bond issue.—Altus
